Tenative Job Offers??

"And the beat goes on..." :nana2:

Many of us on this board are applicants for the position and we are having a hard time trying to figure out exactly how the process flows. When someone makes statements such as the test scores are the primary means of hiring for all similarly qualified applicants, there are people out there that will take that as the truth. It is not and I am just trying to point that out to my fellow applicants.

I read that report before and still don't believe all of it. There is no way to separate people with the same qualifications, geographic preferences, education, etc. without at least looking at the AT SAT scores. If two people have the same qualifications and geographic preference, but scored differently on the AT SAT, are they just going to flip a coin to see who gets the job?

The report indicates the selection for ATSAT testing was previously based on random selection before they instituted a new questionnaire so it wouldn't be too surprising if they just flipped a coin. :sarcasm:

I assume that's what the INTERVIEW IS FOR. If someone has awesome qualifications, low demand geographic preference, & a terrific education, that alone does not guarantee you will get a job. Even if you get 100 on the AT-SAT, if you blow the interview for whatever reason, I doubt you will get hired.

Sorry... I didn't intend to sound like I was cracking on anyone. That was just a line from an old Sonny & Cher tune that popped into my head as I've been reading this thread.

I'm with ya... and as far as I can see, you are the first to have posted a reference to support what you are saying. That's not to say that I believe anyone else is wrong, though.

From my experience with the FAA, I can't imaging why they would give numeric scores if they didn't intend to eventually use them for something. Figuring out for what and how they plan to use them is the trick.

I've looked over the FAA websites and haven't really found anything conclusive... maybe someone will post a link? If someone does indeed find out anything definitive... it will certainly help a lot of folks here out.

One thing in common with this thread and others pertaining to the hiring process is that no one really seems to know for sure just what is really going on. It does my heart good, though, to see the passion for seeking the truth that is being displayed. The tough part is that you're trying to find the truth from an organization that is more adept at distorting it.

Keep trying, though!

No, I am sorry. I misinterpreted your comments as talking crap about some newbies fighting. Vets like yourself have been great to us and have been providing us with a wealth of knowledge.

Now I have that song stuck in my head. Thank you. :)

Then how do they determine who to choose to interview? If 100 people meet the qualifications and prefer the same region (education, work history, well qualified, etc.) do they randomly choose people off that list or go off something else (AT SAT numeric score)?

I know that a region can interview everyone, no one, or some people off of their referral list. I just believe that the AT SAT score plays some part of having a better chance of getting an interview/job offer since 92% of people pass the test. If everyone (100 people) goes in and 'aces' the interview then how do they decide after that? I just think the AT SAT is going to play a part in your chance to get into the FAA.

More proof...Vortmax was choosen before me for the same region and I had a slightly higher ATSAT score him. They liked his background and experience over my high score.
I was told they look for folks with aviation experience. If it is a good amount of experience I think it is similar to adding 30+ extra points on your ATSAT score. So I picture it has Vortmax getting a 125 compared to my 98.
Hope everyone hears something within a month.

Beehive, you're the man. You were selected before me though, and for tower, which I'd rather do over center. Anyhow,,,,Question-I interview at ZLC Thursday and wondered how dressed up did you get? I didn't want to over-do it with too nice of a suit. Maybe just shirt and tie? Anything you can tell me about the interview would be appreciated. The man that called me said it is only about 20 minutes. If anyone else has answers to these Q's, please respond.

The study I referenced above indicated 56.7% were well qualified (85+) and 36.7% were qualified (70-85). My assumption would be the well qualifieds would be interviewed first and if a good candidate is not found they would start interviewing the qualifieds.

Your hypothetical in which there are 100 candidates with the same qualifications that ace the interview for a given facility is not likely. Having taken part in many interviews in my current job, while all 100 may have aced it, there are some that sold themselves so well they stood out above and beyond the rest. I am guessing, in your hypothetical, be those are the ones that are hired.

And, just to make it a little more confusing. I thought I read someones account of the PEPC that said the interview was nothing more than a retired ATC walking him from station to station.

Sorry 'bout that... this'll get it out:

"And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Let me know when you need THAT one cleansed! :buck:

The facility manager of S56/SLC told me ZLC went down a week before she did. I'm in process for the TRACON, I wouldn't mind the tower.

I wore a shirt and tie, no jacket. All the men in the office was wearing the same. The controllers was dressed casual. A TRACON controller asked me if I wanted to be a supervisor! I laughed because I understood his joke than told him I was there for an interview. I chatted with him for a few minutes, he was straight forward about the job. The interview itself was not long at all, then we toured the Tower and TRACON which took about an hour.
Here are some questions I found off another forum and studied good luck.

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. How did you prepare for this interview?
3. Remember a time at work or school where you were working as a team with a group of people and you were under a stressfull situation that your team handled well. How did the outcome of this situation affect you personally and how did effect the group? What did you do to come to a positive outcome, and what did you contribute personally?
3b. same question but where you didn't succeed
4. What would your teamates say you could improve in that situation?
5. same question but a time where you personally where only invovled in the stressful situation and not with a group and you suceeded.
5b. same question but where you personally didn't succeed.
6. Do you have any ATC experience outside of CTI school(actual controller experience)?
7. Why do you want to be an ATCS?
8. What qualities do you have that would make you a good ATCS?
9. Where do you see you career going in ATC?
10. How did you become interested in ATC?

I used the hear that the people who scored 90+ on the ATSAT went En Route, but I can assure you that is not true. I got a 95 and ended up at a level 7 up/down. Two other CTIs hired around the same time as I was scored above 90 as well...

Shirt and tie. Much better to overdress than underdress ;)
