Tell me the good, bad and ugly about ATP...

Although this would be a few years down the road for me, I've been looking around at the Part 141 schools, and ATP came to my mind...

Can anyone give me some info on the reality of attending ATP?

What is the housing like?

Is the 90day program move too fast to absorb what you need to know while training?

Thanks

Hi there Mike,

Welcome to the ATP forum in JC.

First of all I would like to mention that ATP is not Part 141... so that may stop your research cold right there.

As far as the "reality" of attending ATP goes, it can very much be a reality for you. There are students currently attending with vastly varied backgrounds, experience, and ages.

Housing is nice. Usually local fully furnished apartment complexes near within a short drive of the airports.

Does the 90 day program move too fast to absorb it? My short answer is no. This is an "immersion" program. You are in an aviation mindset and training mode for the full 90 days with little distraction from the outside. That being said... ATP is not for everyone. There are numerous great training programs out there for you to research that may be better suited to your training style.

I also highly recommend perusing the 18 pages of forums here and I'm willing to bet that even questions you haven't even thought of will come up and help you make a decision for your future.

Hope that helps,

Let me know if you have any other specific questions I can help you with.

Do a search for Stephen Ames' website; he kept a training diary while he was at ATP Houston a few years ago. Also, do a google groups search for C J Campbell, he did the same thing going through ATP Sacramento.

Thanks Captain Bob for your info, it really helped. Up until this point, the only real info I had about ATP was from magazine adds and their website, (which don't exactly give you the full truth).

I'm still looking around at places, and I'm keeping all of my options open...

From talking to former and current students as well as reading the info on here, ATP seems to be the only one that HASN'T slung the BS my way. So far that is. They have MY vote.
