Telex ear set

Company says the only approved headset for the dc9 is the telex ear set. Anybody here use them? Do you have ear molds made for them?

If you're talking about the 1 ear, no microphone, listen only ear piece, I don't even think Telex makes those any more. I think pilotstuff.com still carries them and they can make a custom ear mold for you. Since most commercial aircraft require boom mikes below 18,000 now, that's a rare headset.

Are you talking about a TSOed headset? If so there are decent TSO headsets out there...

May wanna clarify with your company if you can get clarity alofts, Bose, etc.

Nope, the ONLY headset approved is the telex ear set

I'm planning on getting molded ear plugs, they make them that can incorporate the ear set. There is no intercom in the plane so no need for a boom

Sounds good.

I'm a stickler when it comes to my hearing, but I hear ear molds cancel out comparable db's to Bose, Zulu's, or quality ANR headsets.

That's what I've heard as well, I thought about getting a set for around the ramp before. I hate giving up my Zulus.

I've seen that number before, why 18000.

It is because of the boom mike connection to the cockpit voice recorder. The mikes are hot all the time into the CVR on most modern airplanes (I forget manufactured after _____ date).

Is this what you're talking about?

Yep that's it. A guy told me if I get the 850 no one will say anything about it
