They still have thousands of nukes tho. And a cornered madman is something we are not prepared to deal with.

I have less than zero concern about a nuke being used. Putin isn’t insane, he’s just a narcissist and incompetent.

While true, this display of utter incompetence has demonstrated to me that whether conventional warfare or otherwise, I need not be afraid of Russia.

I don’t think you have a good basis for comparison. There’s a lot of jokes about how we aren’t really good at conventional war, everybody else is just utterly terrible at it.

My brigade couldn’t drive from one end of Texas to the other if you gave them a month to prep for it right now because of where we are in a regen cycle from the last deployment. Add people shooting at us we won’t get from Dallas to Fort Worth.

And the utter incompetence (a lot media driven) shown by Russia actually has our leadership a whole lot more afraid to engage in war with them not less, which is why we are arming the crap out of the Ukrainians so they lose this fight and can’t go after Estonia/Latvia/Hungry/etc in 10-12 years. We don’t want them to do that, fall on their face, get us charging in with NATO overrunning their fall back lines, and trigger a nuclear exchange in desperation.

Putin‘s little misadventure has pretty much convinced me that I should be as worried about Russia as I am of Lithuania.

You're kind of making my point for you, mostly because you seem to be missing the point. I'm not worried about Russia's traditional/kinetic military might. Haven't been much for 25-ish years now (except crazies with nukes).

I fear you're not getting the new threats. Guns and bombs and planes don't matter when minds and wills can be destroyed by other, much more effective and efficient means. Probably the best definition of "winning" a war is destroying an opponent's will to fight. That can be accomplished in many ways these days, many of which do not involve enriching military equipment contractors or shooting up anything.
