Tax Deductions

I recently received my commercial rating and joined an aerial surveying company. Needless to say, I'll be gone for weeks to months at a time. Any insights about tax deductions for both travel and occupation related expenses would be helpful. The IRS 'tax home' caveat has me a bit unsure of certain conditions. Thank you.

P.S. Not kidding: Your employer should be reimbursing for expenses or paying a per diem after these tax law changes, or they’re just thoroughly screwing you.

However, the new standard deductions are higher, so you’ll LIKELY see an overall reduction in total paid taxes.

If you voted for Trump with a straight face, just remember this...

Not being too seriously argumentative but Congress did it, not the Orange Boogie Man. I seriously doubt H would have exercised a Veto.

Too much usefulness as fodder for both cults to have yet another “the sky is falling let’s change it all again” go-around.

Just like all the tax changes I’ve seen in my lifetime. ;)

Interestingly the spending just goes up and up and up and the currency gets devalued devalued devalued.

It’s spiffy to make 1% on savings these days. LOL.

Realistically, the standard deductions went up quite a bit on this one, so people probably will actually pay overall less tax.

But that’ll just mean less federal grants for lower levels and they’ll all come begging for money direct from the thousands of other taxes and fees they get out of every dollar.

Gotta keep building those roads to sell them off to private toll companies. Toss in a dash of Eminent Domain first for flavoring and color. :)

Why they take it at all, when it’s all debt driven at multiples above what they actually collect... is just the “magic” of “free money”.

Everybody in the country, whether above or below the line that pays any real federal taxes, children included, owe more than my first house cost me now.

Have some more babies, would ya? Sheesh. :)

Yay debt. Yay fake growth.

Just keep the shell game alive until I die, would ya younger folks?

Appreciate it. :) Work hard. Pump out more mini-me clones of yourselves.

And of course...

The future is in plastics. Computers are just a passing fad. Buy Enron. Get a haircut. Brush your teeth. Etc. :) :) :)

Then you’re completely clueless about politics. Which isn’t surprising, since you’re continually peddling this ridiculous garbage that both parties are the same.

By all measurable objectives they’re hitting the same major economic and growth goals. They just alternate which of their friends get the graft.

They’re not only the same, they operate as cults do. Two fake opposing destructive cults owned by their small groups of benefactors.

Until we don’t see $2M per candidate donations flowing through miscellaneous law firm names from unknown donors, and tickets to the special boxes at conventions priced below $1.2M including “special access to the candidate” for both cults, you’ll have a hard time objectively stating they’re not identical in their deeds.

And we won’t see that in either of our lifetimes.

We were what, one moment in time away from Bush/Clinton Part III again? LOL. Seriously?

And the politicians aren’t even the real story. As Carlin so aptly put it, “It’s a big club, and you aren’t in it. And they don’t give a **** about you.”

Which is fine. We all get to fly their jets for them. :)

The cognitive dissonances of both cults stances are well documented, and they contradict themselves merely continuously. That’s how literally everything can create outrage of “hypocrisy”.

Then they flip sides on issues and pretend they’ve learned all new things and changed their minds.

But always diametrically opposed, even with massive logical errors in both of their platforms.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The only thing they agree on is Fed policy and banker and insurance bailouts. They don’t really have any other levers to pull that make any sense.

They certainly don’t have realistic solutions. Idealists never do.

Anything “bi-partisan” just means it’s time for everyone to bend over again and hope they use some lube this time while they take turns. Maybe some more nice privately owned toll road lanes, because the fuel tax money went... somewhere... as the traffic and fuel use went up.

Ever met a government agency that wasn’t complaining it was continually broke in an always growing economy? Pretty impressive magic trick, really.

We probably need some Space thingy to hide some more budget under. Always nice to spread out the numbers across a new entity. They figured out how much they liked that when they all voted together to create DHS. Man, what else can we create to spend some more money?

I know! Space cadets! And then the Dems can whine about it and say if we can buy Space crap and give Elon Musk some more money, then we can afford X, and then the Repubs can say if we can afford X then we can afford Y, as nauseam.

The cultists will cheer each time alternately. Rah rah “we won”... as they all get poorer and further in debt. It’s only cash flow after all.

If you’re not getting at least a 4% raise annually, over the last decade, you’re losing purchasing power every year. Don’t think that one is working out too well for most I’ve talked to.

Still a wonderful place to live, don’t get me wrong, but the cultists who are so addicted they talk more about politicians than their own families, are really a problem at this point for the normal folk who have better things to do* with whatever time they have left.

* This post brought to you by Microsoft. Because I can afford to waste time while I’m waiting for a virtual server to install.

There’s a magical moment on Election Day when I hear there’s a big flash of brilliant light and all the Elected Ones amazingly transform and lose all self-interests and convert over only to perfect service of others, until they leave office.

It’s an impressive sight to behold, I’m told. :)

See ya at the airport. Let me know how that whole “MY politicians love me and everyone and want only the best for me” thing is working out.
