Says C310 now
Two people were killed when a twin-engine Cessna 340 bound for Pensacola crashed Friday shortly after takeoff at Peter O. Knight Airport in Tampa Friday.
The Tampa Police Department said the plane was taking off from the airport when it crashed around 11:30 a.m. killing the pilot and a passenger. Their names have not been released.
Tampa Fire Rescue said the plane's wreckage was engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene.
Four fire engines, two Hazmat vehicles and a Tampa Fire Rescue boat that was training nearby in Hillsborough Bay all responded to the scene.
The airport, operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, remains closed as authorities investigate the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are handling the investigation.
