We need ALPA not the Teamsters.
Horizons pay scale is great, but their work rules aren't the best.
Furthermore the teamsters are horrendous in representing pilots when it comes to legal issues with the FAA, certificate issues, and medical issues. As a matter of fact, they contract that out to ALPA.
Seggy I would love to get your selling points on ALPA, I know the guys in my crash pad all seem to want Teamsters due to the Pinnacle situation I assume, but I haven't really heard anyone say anything good about ALPA yet, so I'm all ears...
I'm kinda curious as to their reasoning to go with Teamsters over ALPA when it comes to Pinnacle. It only HELPS to be the same union as the guys that you're more than likely gonna be integrated with. If they're argument is the slow pace of the contract, well, Teamsters wouldn't be able to do any better thanks to the RLA. Plus, thanks to ALPA's legal team, we've won HUGE grievances lately. Top of the list, of course, is the scope grievance with Colgan, second was a "vacation slide" issue that the company basically decided didn't exist anymore b/c they couldn't make it work with pref bid. Then there was the arbitration on the CRJ-900 scales. I'm not saying Teamsters wouldn't have worked as well, but I don't see many ALPA cons when it comes to Pinnacle.
I'm in a crashpad with a few Colgan guys up here in Newark, and I've heard the following:
-"If we get ALPA, then it'll be a conflict of interest because Pinnacle is ALPA, so we should vote Teamsters."
-"If we vote ALPA, we'll have a substandard contract because it won't be as good as Pinnacles, so we should vote Teamsters."
Those poor guys got some long winded explanations of why what they were hearing was incorrect.

Very true. The NMB and NLRB receive, investigate, and track all allegations of "unfair labor practices" that are alleged by members. The stats of ULPs filed between 2000 and 2006 (the most recent numbers available):
ALPA - 4 allegations
IBT - 6,413 allegations, plus 1,243 decertification elections
That's 1 complaint for every 16,500 ALPA members, or 1 complaint for every 218 Teamster members. That's a big difference, and indicates a huge amount of IBT corruption. Not to mention that the IBT still owes the AFL-CIO millions in back-dues that they skipped out on. Only 1 decertification drive for ALPA, but 1,243 for the Teamsters in the same time period. Getting the picture, Atlas pilots? Your problems with ALPA pale in comparison to the problems within the IBT. Do you really want to be a part of this utterly corrupt institution that has been corrupt for nearly its entire history? Think carefully. You can work within ALPA to change things, but the IBT is rotten to the core.

Hey man sent you a PM PLEASE give me a call but Cruise posted this in our company group on here...
Ok, time to set some information straight about PNCL and ALPA. In a recent conversation w/ Scott Erickson (PNCL MEC Pres.), he said there would be NO STAPLE of the lists. Most likely, when our lists are integrated, we would have some type of integration. We would certainly help OUR CAUSE by being ALPA as well. This would enable a smoother transition w/ the integration.
Think about it people. What long term benefit would PNCL have by screwing us? Answer, NONE. Start thinking long term.....w/ the current state of the economy/ industry, we could all be here for much longer than we intended (same for the people at PNCL). At some point in the future we could be sharing the cockpit together....best not to screw the guy/ girl next to you.
We need ALPA, not Teamsters, not CPG, not the USW. Why would we pick a union that supports several different industries, when there is one SPECIFICALLY for airline pilots. Think about it.
Im a teamster and would suggest listening to Seggy and the others. ALPA is the way to go for airline pilots.
