Tailwheel Endorsement

Man, I so desperately want a tailwheel airplane. I have this fantasy about taking a small, not-too-highly powered (maybe 150hp?) TW airplane and spending a couple of months just flying VFR around the country, and becoming the most bad-ass dead-reckoning-and-pilotage guy on earth in the process.

But I'm weird that way.

My instructor claimed that if you learn to fly in a 120 or similarly finnicky tailwheel, you can largely fly any other tailwheel without much difficulty. The other way around becomes a steep learning curve. I also did a lot of my landings on asphalt, making grass landings seem like a breeze as a result.

Your instructor was right in that regard.

It is a fun way to go. I haven't spent months doing it like you want to, but I've ferried Cubs, Citabrias and the like across the States before. 500' for several hundred miles in a Cub was a good way to smell the hayfields, roses and horse pastures.

I think you should buy one :)

Never flown one with GPS, VOR or any nav instrument for that matter. If I have made it over 1,000 landings without bending anything, I think you will be fine!

Oh, and find a nearby gliderport and volunteer to tow on weekends. You will get all the tailwheel flying you van handle.
