T-birds/Blue Angels and separation

I referred to him as ANTI-Air Force, and ANTI-American **with regards to his views on the T-birds** nothing else.
By that I mean even if he thinks the general manager of a ballclub is lousy, a player keeps that to himself...if MikeD thinks the T-birds are loops to music, keep that to yourself - if I were in charge of the Air Force he'd be damn glad he had that CFI license because he'd be out on his ass for saying stuff like that.
He' s obviously not UN-American - he's a true patiot for what he's doing and I commend him for that. But w/regards to his views on the T-birds, yes, he's anti-American in my view, which I'm allowed to have, thankyou :-)

...and not to be sarcastic, but that's probably why you're not in the Air Force. You've got to have way thicker skin.

You ought to see what the former Navy and Air Force pilots say about Marine aviators. And what THEY ALL say about Coasties! :)

F-15 call themselves "drivers" while everyone else calls them "pukes". F-16 pilots call themselves "viper pilots" meanwhile KC-135 pilots refer to them as "lawn darts".

I'd say what some of the former attack pilots say about some of the "ascot-wearing pretty boys".

Big friggen deal. Toughen up, bro. Once a captain made a snide comment about flying with a civilian pilot (me) and I greased it in, landed and had tons of runway to spare in Orange County, meanwhile he pranged it on in DFW.

So he bought the first round that evening. Big deal! Who cares, bro!

I don't know how things work in the Air Force and nor do you. I don't even know how things should work in the military which is why I leave it up to MikeD, Mike Lewis, ROFIBC, H46Bubba, et al to answer quetsions like that.

Notice how I didn't exclaim, "John's probably right!" but I took the time to ask an experienced military aviator, take copious notes and then report back what HE said?

That's a whole different world that you, nor I understand...

So for what he does, MikeD is not "un-American" but for his thoughts about the T-Birds he's is "anti-American". So what is he when he flys the F-117 to an airshow? Not "un-American" or ??? I suppose you got to make the definition bend to what_ever suits your fancy. As far as MikeD being out on his a$$ for his views.....Yeah, O.K. What color is the sky in your world?

Very well said, Doug - and with that maybe we can send this one to the lavoratory for a spin in the blue....

:-)

And yes, you should have come to the NetworkJC event especially living in Las Vegas. It's a lot more conducive to having a cogent debate with someone when you actually know them.

OK tonight I"ll get around to updating my profile I guess!
I moved a few weeks ago back to Florida, and so missed it...I would've definitely been there though if I had still been there....

And yes I've always known they were "just" fighter pilots - I never said they were the greatest pilots to ever fly..
Bull. In post #10 of this thread, you called them "the elite of our countries' [sic] fighter pilots", which is patently false. The true elite of our country's fighter pilots can be found instructing at the services' Fighter Weapons Schools at NAS Fallon and Nellis AFB, both in Nevada (and in the case of the AF, in the 422d Test and Evaluation Squadron, also at Nellis.)

The guys out on the frontline should realize though that the T-birds/Angels aren't just showing off for the hell of it or to avoid combat; they're helping to inspire and recruit future military pilots to continue the mission the guys on the frontline are doing now! .
You really think the military has a hard time recruiting people to be pilots?

If you join the military to become a Thunderbird or Blue Angel, you're kidding yourself - the chances are probably 1 in 10,000 or something.
Uh, not quite. There are around 3,300 fighter pilots in the Air Force, and maybe half who have the requisite experience (1,500 hrs fighter or high performance trainer (T-38) time). There are eight pilot openings on the T-birds, so assuming ALL eligible pilots apply (which is nowhere near close to reality), a pilot's chances are 1 in 187.5. Quite honestly, I don't believe they get more than 60 or so application packages for the 2 or 3 openings each year, so the odds are more like 1 in 20 or 1 in 30. A far cry from 1 in 10,000.

I've always known that but this is the first place I"ve ever heard them referred to with such lack of respect.

Here's what I think. As a military controller I have had the pleasure of meeting pilots flying Airforce 1, Marine 1, F-16s. f-18s, astronauts flying t-38s, Uh-60s...blah blah blah. I respected each and everyone one of them for A. Serving their country as I'm trying to do, and B. being pilots which is what I'm trying to do. But it is the contracted 737s that are bringing troops home that make me get out of the tower, so I can network. So do I care about the thunderbirds? As long as they get on the ground safe no. Do I respect them yes. Are they one day going to walk my resume in and help me attain my dream job? No..Who Gves A Hoot.

:p:p:p:p Did he really say that?

I respect them about the same amount as I respect the enlisted man that washes his aircraft, or the enlisted women that checks his tire pressure.

Good thing that you're not in charge then, huh?

I enjoy watching the T-Birds, but I don't have any unrealistic idealism or "respect" about the members. After all, it IS "loops to music" it's a SHOW after all, just like "Tops in Blue" AF band. And believe me, no one in the AF is going to get in trouble for saying stuff about the T-Birds. Hint to you John2375, if you don't know anything about a subject or have no experience in it, don't be quite so vocal about your opinions. Leave that kinda stuff to Aloft. :p

I assume you PFT'd so you have an opinion on that. However, since you don't have long term experience in this industry, you really don't see the effects of this on the profession.

Try listening more than opinionating, you learn more that way.

Huh? Anything I haven't got my facts straight on, chief?

I'm still waiting for John2375 to refer to ROFIBC as bad because he's got hair below his collar! :)

"collar"...what's a collar? Oh yeah that's one of those things that tee shirts that have NASCAR logos on them don't have! Woo Hoo!

BTW when I came back from the left coast in my rollin' condo in September I actually found the "Phoenix Bypass"...right through Gila Bend! Gahhhhh.....I'll take the secenery of a packed freeway anyday!
