Syncing props on the takeoff roll. Yes or no?

Real men don't hear that 'wohhh-wohhh-wohhh-wohhh' sound anyway. Only nancies get upset at any glorious by-product sounds of harnessed controlled explosions!

I actually syncrophase the props by hand.... during the takeoff roll... while eating my sandwich and doing my sudoku puzzle.
 
Last weekend, I was doing a solo flight to work on PPL maneuvers and decided to try something new by syncing the prop on the roll. Will be doing it from now on.
 
LOL I just push them all the way up. Thats what the bypass is for. Kinda like a fadec over whatever that is. then once I get to 6k i will trim out the bypass lights. and balancing the fuel??? UH?? thats what you just put 30gals in the right and 115 in the left for. all this talk takes away from nap time. you know now that i think about it my right fuel qty gauge dont work and I was only flying around on the right engine this week. i might want to look into this.

I see that I need to come visit you.
 
What kind of girlie-man does that? Unless your mx is just so incredibly lazy that they can't set your prop max RPM within about 25 and you're just deathly afraid that if you let them both go all the way forward you're going to overspeed the engine and have parts come flying off, I see no reason to worry about the "wahwahwahwah" until you're in climb.

Then again, I carry nothing but freaked out members of the general public who are deathly afraid of the "itty bitty plane." Any wah-wahs and they think something's wrong with the engines. Can't make this up!

Haha. You make up for it by flying a manly plane. When I flew the Canadian-built, Austrian-designed, Plastic-frame, Compression-ignition, Electric wonder, 1. you could never get the dang props to synch as the FADEC always let them wander just enough to be annoying and 2. the darn thing just didn't have enough power anyway.

Of course I flew the Duchess too but that was too long ago and I don't remember anything about that except having no idea what the crap I was doing for the first 15 hours or so.

And if somebody doesn't get it, I'm not serious, and you should ever, NEVER try to takeoff with anything less than full power in a Cessna 172!!!

Wow Train. That is weird you said that. Just this morning I was doing a checkout in a 172 to rent from this one fbo. He had me do a takeoff at about 1800-1900 rpm to simulate a high density altitude takeoff. I did not think we would get up, but we did. Not the most comfortable thing ever, but did not seem very dangerous. I thought it was good training.
 
I'm gonna make a thread titled, "Using full power on takeoff in a Cessna 172?" and try to argue for a flex takeoff setting, seeing if I can get anybody to bite.

And if somebody doesn't get it, I'm not serious, and you should ever, NEVER try to takeoff with anything less than full power in a Cessna 172!!!

Not trying to be the devil's advocate or anything but on my CFI ride the examiner had me do a reduced power soft field takeoff. I had heard he likes to do this so I had practiced it before hand but its still unusual. His rational was that everything happens slower so the students can learn more and get a better feel for the aircraft. I dont remember what rpm we used maybe 22-2300 but it got off the ground just fine.

Personally, I perform de-rated power takeoffs in the 172 to reduce CHT to prevent subsequent shock-cooling... :D
 
I would sync the props on takeoff roll but I can't because I have have one hand on the controls and I'm holding my beer in the other. :sarcasm:

How do you know you have the performance required to takeoff in that condition? There are no charts for a reduced power takeoff in a Cessna 172 and thus, I'm not sure how you could prove to the FAA that you had the necessary length of runway to takeoff from.

The real problem with this would be if you got near the end, realized you weren't gonna get off the ground and didn't have enough room to stop or put the engine up to full power and takeoff in the remaining runway.

Was this an examiner or an inspector?
