SWA Slides off the runway in DEN

In that case, perhaps the criticism should have been that the image used had absolutely nothing to do with SWA taxi speeds. That was an overrun accident, as was the image with the gas price quote at the bottom.
The first visit to the gas station was due to the Southwest mentality that is being described on this thread. They forced an incredibly unstable approach into a landing due to trying to get there quicker.

AA has slid their fair share off too. We [at Eagle] used to joke it wasn't officially winter until AA slid one off a taxiway or runway.
.
I'm not sure what AA's deal is... but you're absolutely right about that. If anyone has done much of a study on AA's flight ops procedures and policies, they are incredibly cumbersome and overly complex. One look at their 757/767 checklist gives a nice window of light into that.

NW DC-9's used to make excursions almost every winter as well, but that was primarily due to the operations they did in shorter contaminated runways in the upper midwest.

They even pulled out of Traverse City seasonally for a while because of winter ops safety concerns.

Maybe it's just me, but joking about accidents where there was a fatality has a certain degree of tackiness to it.

Why? According to SWA management, their accident didn't cause the kid's death. Haven't you seen them continue to claim that they've never had a fatal accident? Next time I see you in Vegas at NJC, remember to ask me what they claim the cause of the kid's death was.

This would definitely be interesting to know.......

Have to grab a steak when we're out there.

There was another one at GEG in the last 5 years too. Unless that was the one in the video.

I was in Spokane that day...they landed on 21 and took it all the way to the end, going too fast to make the turn off and got the left main in the snow/slush off the taxiway. They were not past the hold short line and didn't alert tower (who couldn't see them, it was 1 mile/SN/overcast). Alaska lands on 21 and tries to taxi off at the end, tells tower they can't because Southwest was in the way. Technically a runway incursion.
