SWA going international?

I hope they stick with the 737, it has proven itself with SWA current operations. I guess the single a/c type fleet philosphy is a good one!

Yep, there 73s are nice. There a/c philosphy works for them, but they are a low fare domestic carrier so I guess thats why it works.
 
I think international ops would definitely damage their ability to be on time, and totally remove any idea of a "quick turn." Chances are, ATA will expand internationally, and will continue to be a feeder for SWA routes. Kind of interesting that SWA's feeder flies aircraft that are larger than SWA operates :)
 
From what I understand its only to Mexican tourist traps like Cabo, Cancun ect. The are also looking into routes to Canada. Something else I heard, a friend of mine is a commercial real estate agent and told me that SWA looks to have purchased the old Nation Airlines building off Sunset here in Vegas. I wonder whats up with that.
 
GOL (Brazilian) has similar aircraft and they have also been going international lately. Hopefully SWA will do as well.

International doesn't only mean accross the pond. There are many other intenational destinations they can go to.
 
...but I'm serious. I remember reading it in flying a few years ago and thinking it was BS, but I guess they can do it when they're REALLY weight restricted.
 
Frontier already flies to Mexico and Canada. I actually just helped the City of Calgary put together a brochure about Frontier linking Denver and their city.

I would like to see Frontier fly to some of the inland cities, I think that is a huge market waiting to be tapped. Resort towns are good too but many are seasonally good.
 
I think CO flies their 737s over the pond out of EWR. I know they have many of them that are ETOPS certified.

Okay...I figure they have extra fuel tanks onboard. But thats not a nonstop flight is it?

I'd go absolutely bonkers if it was! I know you wouldn't get more room to yourself or anything in a 737 over the big stuff, but the size of the interior itself would make me go insane I think.
 
Luftansa has been running those 737's across the pond for years. They found a niche where the whole aircraft is in a business class configuration and it is making them money hand over fist.
