SWA cuts legroom....

Ahhh yes, the ole' rag on Southwest thread. Have any of you sat in the new seat? No? Okay, so hold judgement till you have then. And the whole green thing is important. Maybe because theres so much pressure from society to be 'green' for everything we do, instead of fighting the trend, they're rolling with the punches. Of all the peanut counters in the airline industry, Southwest has some of the best. They've kept us profitable for 40 years.

You know what's funny? We're adding 6 more seats, found a way to reduce fuel, and improve profits per flight and people have the nerve to complain about it. Is the bashing on a passenger side of things or on an airline pilot side of things? If it's the latter, if you want a potential future job flying airplanes for a living, it's quite ironic your bashing the very thing that will keep a profession alive.

I see the bashing of the seats, but do you all care so much about 1 inch less legroom to the fact that you'll turn a blind eye to EVERY airline charging for bags? Airlines charging for a can soda? Airlines charging to change your ticket + the fare difference? Airlines charging you to check in at the airport? Sorry, I forgot, Southwest is just soooooo evil and deceptive in their business model because they ANNOUNCED what they'll be doing instead of just changing the policy overnight under the radar. Right.

Oh, yeah. And this!

I was referring more to unassigned seating. Worst thing to happen to air travel.

Yeah, its easy to poke fun at the "cattle call," but really, whats wrong with first come, first serve? Things go just as smoothly with that as they do on airline X

I like the unassigned seating. I like that a good seat is up to me not assignment chance.

Don't all airlines line up their pax before boarding? Thus all airlines have the cattle call.

As much as I hate for the current leg room and pitch to go away, I'm more interested in the greater good of SWA. Wish that would come from a ticket price increase and not a decrease in pitch though.
The pitch is important to me.

I really wish the seats would be first come first served based on check in. If you want the good seat then check in online as soon as the check in window opens. Then they would have all the people sitting in the back board in the first group, middle second, front boards last. Now that would be efficient boarding!

SWA 'cattle calls' are usually far more civil than other just because they have a line for the cattle to line up against. I get so sick of seeing people boarding Delta flights and just rushing the door like it's a riot. Oh and all the people in the next zone that just have to get up and wait near the door so they're right there when it's time for their zone to be called. Your seat is assigned fools!!!!

Good for SWA on finding another way to make money without actually charging more money. If the seats really are that uncomfortable... well, then passengers will continue to just book the cheapest fare anyway.

Checkin for seats being first come - first serve? Would piss off biz travelers like me that pay full far at the last minute and get crappy seats.

That said, I rarely take SWA- I like sitting in first.

Well for us cheapskates we love SWA, and I wouldn't know what first class is like but I hear it is amazing.

Also check in 24 hours before and you got yourself a good seat and if you cannot get A list.

Can I fly first class please!

My company buys tickets strictly on cost.

I have never ridden on SWA on one of their tickets. Just sayin'.

I agree. (In a way, I think it is that way - when I check in 23:59:59 before a flight on SWA, I typically get an A-pass, but that may also be a function of my Rapid Rewards status. And yes, I have a Rapid Rewards 'status'...)

One point: Seats are assigned but overhead bin space is not. The cattle calls and ensuing chaos is PROBABLY a function of the latter fact, not the former as far as other airlines are concerned. We sort of shot our ontime performance in the foot when charging for checked bags became the industry norm (excluding SWA, of course).

Note that I'm generally displeased with anything that purports to take legroom away, as I have ridiculously long legs. (#tallpeopleproblems) Again, I haven't had an issue with slimline seats on other 737-using carriers.

Are you serious? A lot of our business comes from said 'biz travellers.' If you're purchasing a last minute ticket, you're generally going to pay a full fare ticket. For as little as $15, you can purchase Business Select which will get you a guaranteed A1-15 boarding position (literally, the first people on the aircraft) a Free Drink on board, dedicated security lines at select airports, and double rapid rewards points. Fly on us enough, and you'll gain status in our Rapid Rewards system which will reserve you an early boarding position.

Continue away flying first class on your choice of airline. Are you flying for the experience or for the mode of transportation. Like myself, when I book travel for BUSINESS (why gee, does Bigey have his own personal business?) I fly Southwest. Is it because I work for them also and want to support my airline? Sure! Is it also because it makes a financially savy business move on my behalf? Absolutely!

That being said, if you want to bash Southwest, at least be in the open about it. Don't try to sugar coat and find assinine reasons to do so.

Maybe this is what we will see on SWA in the near future? Who knows?

I have always found SWA seats to be more comfortable and with more legroom than any major I have flown on, to include Continental, Delta, American, and United. Per the norm, I think a lot of people here are talking out of some orifice other than their mouths.

Agreed, I didn't realize there was so much sw hate. I have never ridden on anything but an MD series aircraft on Delta, but I find them to be comfortable too, however CAL 737 seats are the worst I have ever been in.

I just rode on a Delta 757 that had what seemed to me a concrete block for seat cushion and then I've been on ERJs that had way better seats. The last swa seat I had was better than Delta.

The SW hate in the thread aside, this is one of those topics where what's comfortable for one, might not be for someone else, and vice versa. There's no "right" answer, just a matter of personal taste.

Meh, I've noticed that it really doesn't matter what you post-- someone, somewhere is going to hate on it. Very likely, there will be three or four people, plus a few trolls, and on the basis of that the half-dozen or so haters and trolls will be all to happy to announce that their opinion is the consensus view. It's a stupid thing, really, but the haters get a little zing of affirmation, and the trolls get delishus lolz.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Oh yeah, CAL is by far the worst. Not only are the seats about 4" from one another, but they seem to be composed chiefly of rough-hewn sawdust and decomposing bug parts, and then treated to make them smell like the inside of Mario Batali's Crocs. Fortunately, this arrangement gives the flight attendants the opportunity to take pleasure in the discomfort of the passengers, which seems to be the only thing that they actually enjoy about their work.

The pilots, mustering up what stoicism their decimated morale allows, just close the door and say "well, the 'slave ship' seems to be in order back there." They call if the Slave Ship because looking back into the cabin reminds them of this:
