Fellow Pilots,
This afternoon, the AirTran Merger Committee (MC) reached an agreement-in-principle with SWAPA and Southwest Airlines on a seniority list integration and transition agreement.
This agreement will be presented to the ATN ALPA Master Executive Council for their consideration in the near future. If this agreement is approved by the MEC, it will be presented to the membership for ratification.
The MC will be working in the coming days to translate the current agreement into a full-language document. This will require a great deal of work, and your patience is appreciated as they develop a comprehensive presentation for the MEC and the pilots of AirTran Airways.
The Merger Committee believes that this a fair agreement that provides career protection for AirTran pilots, as well as significant economic gains.
In unity,
Your ATN Master Executive Council

-AAI pilots get DOH minus six years for seniority purposes, but original DOH for other benefits such as vacation and retirement vesting.
-AAI pilots will get an immediate 10% raise at DOS plus full SWA benefits during the time they continue to fly the AAI system. They will get full SWA pay upon transition and are pay protected to not earn less than their current pay rate.
-Every AAI pilot must log a minimum of 1000 flight hours as a SWA FO before flying as a SWA Capt. During that period they will earn the greater of their last AAI rate or the current respective SWA FO rate. When the FO time has been accrued, they will fall under normal vacancy rules to assume any new position. Those senior enough to hold a Captain position can only assume that position when there is a published vacancy. NO FORCED DOWNGRADES.
-Fences. No SWA pilot can bid into the existing AAI system to operate un-transitioned AAI equipment. At some point the company will establish a SWA domicile in ATL. At that time any pilot can bid into that domicile. Once the AAI system is fully transitioned, no artificial fences or restrictions will exist.
-Once B717 aircraft are transitioned in the SWA system, any pilot can bid into that flying as it is placed into service.
-Any pilot who attends an upgrade/transition course into an aircraft in which they have at least 2000 PIC or 5000 SIC will be a shortened and condensed course. (Subject to FAA approval). Other upgrade/transition courses will be normal length per the training manual.
-There will be at least 7 aircraft and associated crews transitioned per month. AAI transitions to SWA courses will be by internal AAI seniority for the first six months, and thereafter by possible assignment at the companys convenience as the numbers dwindle on specific aircraft types and AAI staffing needs.
-SWA pilots get an immediate 3% raise at DOS in lieu of the September raise. All original SWA pilots employed on snapshot date get a lifetime no furlough pledge. All SWA Captains on the snapshot date get a lifetime no downgrade pledge (except for disciplinary reasons).
-Lance program ends on date of first transition class. All currently designated lance pilots will assume whatever position their seniority can hold based upon the vacancies that exist at the time.
-All SWA and AAI pilots employed on the snapshot date will get a stock grant of 1000 shares that will vest 24 months after the issue date.
-The company gets full relief of any contractual codeshare restrictions, but only between the two entities and only until the transition is complete or 36 months, whichever occurs first.
-The company agrees to grow by a minimum additional 180 aircraft over and above the combined SWA/AAI fleet to be completed no later than three years after completion of the merger process. (Subject to typical caveats for acts of God, economic collapse, etc).
