SWA and Airtran negotiations breaking down?

I was hoping for a pure staple job just for the entertainment and educational value. It has been boring since the whole USAPA/West saga - I loved those threads - and was hoping for another melodrama on that scale with the addition of a bitter group of pilots destroying the SWA employee/customer service culture, fistfights among employees, death threats, and the ability to see how SWA would respond to some real adversity - they've been remarkably lucky and I'd like to see them fight through adversity - which I'm not sure they've really done since their founding. Further, the subplots - like ATN_Pilot being able to reinforce some of the harsh criticism he once heaped on SWAPA and SWA in general would have been fun to read. While this may be good for the ATN pilots, and the airline as a whole, I feel cheated out of an epic soap opera. It would have been fun.

Agreement between the MECs?

It's an "agreement in principal" between the two Merger Committees. Now the ATN MEC and the SWAPA BOD have to vote on whether they approve it or not. That will probably happen in a week or two. After that, it goes out for a vote by all of the pilots. Only after both pilot groups approve it is it official.

Despite the title of this thread...that's a pretty significant step in the right direction.

Pure staple would be BS in my humble opinion, but if that's the case is a long stretch as an FO averaging 140K a year really that bad of a deal? I would think a lot of regional Capts would kill for that.

SWA has been around a lot longer if I recall, what would straight DOH look like?

Because anything else would mean the SWA pilots would have to take concessions I imagine. I mean imagine being #80 in line for upgrade and then being #160 after integration.

The difference is that there will be more airframes to upgrade into. Moving back a little bit wont change a person's upgrade time too much.

I know of one FO that is afraid of getting punted down to the 717. That could be a concern but unlikely due to unnecessary company costs.

What a regional captain would kill for is irrelevant. We aren't regional pilots (no offense to those who are).

My upgrade time would go from 5 years to just over 20.

Hey ATN- Do you think you should have upgraded before 10 and 11 year fos at SWA after the intergration?

Some desperate bastard would bust my car windows to steal a Debbie Gibson CD off my passenger seat too, but it doesn't mean that the album doesn't suck.

True. My point being that an FO at those payscales is not the end of the world.

What are retirements like at SWA post age 65?

In your opinion, what would be fair regarding SLI?

Southwest is pleased to announce an agreement in principle between the Southwest Airlines Pilots’ Association (SWAPA), the union representing our Pilots, and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), the union representing the Pilots of AirTran. This agreement in principle, subject to the respective unions’ board approval and membership ratification, would integrate the two groups’ seniority lists. “The unions and Company negotiating Teams have accomplished a task that is rare in this industry, developing an integrated seniority list and transition plan for our Pilots outside of arbitration," said Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Van de Ven. “It's just another example of our People taking ownership in the integration of AirTran into Southwest Airlines, and that's our Culture.” “We are proud of both groups’ initiative to take a remarkably difficult task and produce something fair and equitable for both sides,” added Vice President Flight Operations, Captain Chuck Magill. “Our Pilots have demonstrated exceptional Leadership through their dedication to this process and their commitment to the integration.” Southwest will continue to work toward combining the operations of both carriers and to the success this opportunity offers Customers, Employees, and Shareholders. Reaching a negotiated agreement with the two Pilot groups avoids the arbitration process and gives both groups ownership of the combined list. More information about the Agreement in Principle will be released once both Unions’ Board of Directors and general membership have had a chance to review the details. As always, stay tuned to SWALife!

I doubt it, but Google would certainly take care of that in a few days.
