SW effect coming to Hawaii

Totally missed my point. Southwest's operation depends on taxiing umm... quickly, getting shortcuts, flying fast, quick turns and the like. All those things don't happen with transpac ops and the way the dot runs the airports. Sure, a passenger may not see that first hand, but they will sure feel the effects and the costs of it.
Or, alternatively, the highly paid network analysts at SWA crunched the numbers and convinced the board that it would be a net positive for the company.

I'm sure they'll do just fine. They will fill the planes with redeemed frequent flyer tickets if nothing else, which keeps their customer base happy and reduces a balance sheet liability. They just aren't going to be the huge rock tossed in a still pond that people are hyping them to be.

HCF is almost all mainlanders now I think. Their turnover is insane. Seems like a new voice every week.
Ugh, I miss flying out there. If Island Air went through with their part-time pilot scheme they were thinking about I would still be there. My only hope is Hawaiian now but I am pretty sure my education is the only reason I haven't been called in all the hiring windows.

Yeah, I would guess that if they take business away from any one competitor in particular it would be Alaska, but that's sort of a WAG

It's objectively my favorite place I've ever flown - it's not as exciting as Alaska, and HCF is "interesting" at times...but the people out there...

True, that.

It is usually the cheapest unrestricted, refundable ticket, though.

Absolutely. As a pilot I never gave a crap about this...but without nonrev/jumpseat ability, refundable tickets and free checked bags make a world of difference.
