Becoming a regional pilot requires a tremendous amount of time, training and money. Federal rules stipulate that commercial-airline pilots have a minimum of 1,500 hours of flight experience, and the training can cost more than $100,000.

But starting salaries for full-time pilots at regional airline carriers average about $22,400, according to data from the pilot union Air Line Pilots Association. For a 40-hour workweek, that would mean these skilled professionals are taking home about $10.75 per hour.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought pilots in high altitude aircraft (typically jets) had to be clean shaven for a proper fit with the oxygen masks.

Nah, it's a load of BS. I had a beard and never had any problem with the mask sealing.

Gotcha. I have a friend working at an airline. When he interviewed he wasn't clean shaven, and they gave him some crap for not being clean shaven during the interview. They told him he would have to be for the proper fit of the oxygen mask. That's where I got that from.

I'll have one again in a week or so, but I felt 90F was too warm to have facial hair. Speaking of which, are you in STL anytime next week?

Depending on if I wanted that job... you could be like, well lets see if it seals. If it does, no problem right? Because it will if it's cleanly trimmed.
