Only way I’ve known to use it is if you’re running a dead reckoning plot, but that means you’re using a paper chart on a chart table and you’re regularly doing your DR plots and doing sightings periodically. Things that are easy to do when you’re on a ship, but I don’t know of any airliners these days that have the space to do it. Though over the last 20 years they probably have come up with “new” methods of doing celestial navigation on those new fangled electronic charts.
