Sully and the 1500h rule

First, look through 119.1. Lots of good stuff there. Even more vague? Part 91, 125 and 135. Those are all options. Not too long ago there was no one that did the CFI to 121 thing. That is a new phenomena, and maybe it's over, but I doubt it.

I'm well aware of all those options. I wouldn't be CFIing if one of those options paid as well or better and got me more experience quickly. Not to mention finding those jobs in the first place. To anyone who wants suggestions besides reading the regs. The best thing I have heard of for build XC time is doing aerial survey work. As you fly between jobs, you will build experience there. Skydive pilot, crop dusting, and site seeing tours won't get you XC time. However, those will help you build bad habits if you let it.

Flight instructing is also a great way to put yourself into new and unexpected jobs. Current or past students may call you up someday to fly their plane for them, or hook you up with someone who needs a pilot for Part 91 ops. I have friends who have done that, and it was by the avenue of being a CFI. There are a lot of options. Network a lot. Talk to everybody, and mix in a little luck for the right flying job to get you to where you want to go.

Remember 135 VFR is a lot lower than IFR. And the IFR side it a pretty good way to build real experience to. IF you look around there's still quite a few 135 VFR ops out there, and not just in AK.

You could do something besides CFI. You know, be more than a 1 trick pony.

There you go. At 1200 hours you go find a part 135 job, which in almost all circumstances will be flights over 50 nm. Upon reaching ATP minimums you can head off to a regional.

Try to get on with a flight school with Chinese contract students. A portion of their training consists of going out and building experience and PIC time. You can turn all of those into xc flights.
That's what I am doing. I am hired at a 141 flight school that will be getting plenty of international students shortly that will be here for a few months to do all of their training.

I don't and have never held a CFI. Somehow I managed to build hours and acquire an ATP without paying for a single one after my MCPL.(well not including the time recently in singles I've done for pure fun). Use your brain. Solving this for yourself is probably easiest thing you'll have to do in aviation.
But hey, I'm dangerous. Ask Autothrust Blue
I would say my set of circumstances is a little unique (no, I'm not trying to be an exceptionalist here). But aerial mapping and survey is good, well-paying work if you can get it. I'd highly recommend it. Flying with a mission in mind is different than instructing, IMO. (Although I'm not an instructor, so take that with a grain of salt too.)

You're a dangerous hack. When can I come to Anchorage?

There is nothing magical about the one hour increment. I'm surprised more CFIs don't increase fight durations, especially if it helps them achieve their own goals.
Erm, that's pedagogically suspect, isn't it?

Manana

Or next month if that works better. It's too hot up here right now anyways.
