Dear fellow aviators,

I know we riducle FS9 often but i recently found this cool thing called Vatsim. It is basically multiplayer but you get to voice chat with real atc as in people who play as atc. You can learn the atc procedure like in real life. you also sometimes have to fly the departure procedure when atc requires you too. It is really fun for those whoc cant wait till they fly big airlines out of big airports. Any comment is welcome.

Thank you

We don't ridicule flight sim because it has a purpose. IE, when you roll into a turn, everything moves the way it should move and you have to react in certain ways to keep it performing the way you'd like it to, similar to an airplane. But there's no tactile feel, the automation isn't correct and the planes react differently than the actual aircraft does by far.

The only "ridicule" comes when someone who has "500 hours" of MSFS 757 time tries to defensively compare notes with an actual 757 pilot.

No need to put quotes on the 500 hours. Put it on the "757" instead. The sad thing that those were 500 actually spent flying the sim. So the time is real, the aircraft is not.

BTW, I'm not bashing anyone. I accumulated like 3,000 hours of "actual" FS time over the years. It's really sad if you look back at it.

It is really sad if you look at it. Thats a lot of time on the comp...it is a fun game though.

Its as almost as as sad as what happened to me today in class. Anyone familiar with Blackboard online. Its a computer program that offers instruction over the internet. Well my teacher decided to post the stats of our class Blackboard site. He scrolled down to the number of page hits section and there I was with 193 hits!...40 or so hits more than the instructor and a lot more than others in the class. Needless to say it showed to the whole class that I had no life. lol.

Yeah, I know the aircrafts are not real but you get the basic knowledge on talking to the atc and following procedure.

I know a guy that actively defends his practice of flying a route in FS for "familiarization" purposes. He sits there and flies the whole 5 hour flight.....
