Substitute Ground Instructor Test for CFI test?

Can a basic or advanced ground Instructor written test substitute for the Flight Instructor Written?

I don't believe so. Taking the Advanced Ground (or Basic Ground) in addition to Fundamentals of instructing will allow you to get an Advanced (or basic) Ground instructor certificate. If you have this certificate going into your CFI-initial practical the examiner does not need to cover Fundamentals of Instructing info during the oral. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Nope, AGI or IGI or BGI only go with ground instruction.

If you want to become a CFI you need the FOI and FI writtens.

Surreal had his AGI and they didn't test him on FOI. HOWEVER, these was a debate about this a while back and I don't believe that it states anywhere that if one has a ground instructor license it allows them to skip the FOI during the oral portion of the practical.

Run a search for ground instructor and FOI.

CFI Airplane Written isn't hard, and if you are a person like me who rote memorized 50% of the answers on my other writtens, its a good way to learn a thing or two, and it will definately help you preparing to become a CFI. Just take the test, its really not bad.

I was being cheep and trying to save myself an exam fee...
Oh well, another 1.5 hours of flying money going to laser grade.

I had looked at taking the ground instructor written exams but I found it wasn't necessary. All you really need to do is take the flight instructor and FOI tests because once you're a CFI, you can teach ground anyway.

There are no record keeping requirements for a ground instructor, and they can teach ground for any aircraft.
