Submitting applications?--Please read

I am currently reviewing apps. The following are some tips to help you make it into the stack for further consideration:

  • Proofread for grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Also, reread to see if it makes sense or if parts seem to conflict with other parts of your submitted documents.
  • Especially be sure to completely fill out the format you are using. Several resumes had "0" for TT.
  • Don't expect a call back to your unsolicited inquiry to discuss your experience or skills (don't obligate the prospective employer to drop everything to chat with you). This is your best shot so make it count, submit the required information now.
  • Is your stated experience relevent to the position? If not, leave it off. Your aim is to be succint and concise.
  • Speaking of relevence, while your flight times are important, please include the aircraft types you have flown. Remember, I don't know you or your experience.
  • Please state at least the name of the flight school at which you received your ratings. Better would be to include the term you were enrolled (mm/yy--mm/yy) and the city and state.
  • Please research the name of personnel and/or company which you are sending to. That goes for type of operations too.
  • Please limit yourself from going into great detail of non-relevent work experience and accomplishments.
  • Don't embellish, it will be found out. Trust me.
That is all for now. I'm still reviewing apps.

EDIT: Please format your resume so it doesn't read like a run-on sentence. And if not sending via a job board format, please send in Adobe.

Yeah, I know.... But I'm not soliciting for a job and this isn't a resume.

BTW: go back and read again, you missed a couple. ;)

I didn't' miss anything, FireFox did....Built in internet spell checker.....:rawk:

Telling people to check spelling in a post that has spelling errors is like saying you shouldn't use drugs and then going to hit the crack pipe.

Yeah, exactly like that. Hoo boy!

Look, based on the resumes I rafted through today, it's evident quite a few folks need some help. Shoot me dead for trying to help.

Lame. I payed attenshun en skool an learned to reed and right widout a compewter softwhere progrim to tells me if I tipped it rightly. I don't blame udders fer my fault.

You have very valid points about resumes, I'm not trying to tear you down. My 8 years in the classroom made me a stickler for grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Hey, shudnt you b using this time 2 b lookin at my resumes, not messin round on teh internetz?

Sincerely,
Another 300 hour wonder.

Good points. Bottom line is that if you want to be taken seriously, spend some time reviewing the details. Ensure your final product makes you look like a professional who cares about the little things. Before you submit, ask yourself if you'd hire this person.

FWIW.....

When I reviewed resumes during the interview, if I couldn't discerne the licenses you've held, how much TT, multi and/or turbine, PIC and SIC and major types of aircraft you've flown (SEL is fine, I didn't need a break down of PA-28 and 172 time for an airline interview), and time in 121/135 operations and where you got your aviation education in about 3 minutes it made my time tougher, and gave the intervewee more questions to answer since I couldn't find what was important.

Oh, an email address like badasspilot69@imapimp.com never added bonus points.

You laugh, but the stories that could be told by anyone that's done interviews....
