Studying for CFII ...

I'm going to start studying for the CFII, and am wondering what books/materials I will need. I have a copy of the FAA Instrument Flying Handbook, ASA Instrument Oral Exam Guide, FARAIM2005, and the PTS.

Anything else?

Do I have to make lesson plans for everything in the PTS like I did for the initial CFI?

The FAA also has an "Instrument Procedures Handbook", but I'm not sure if I'll need that or not.

I say get it. . .it's good.

Also, Ask the examiner if (s)he wants you to make lesson plans at all. Since it's an add-on rating, you're not required to by the PTS.

if it's not required by the PTS, why would you ask the examiner if (s)he wants you to make the plans?

Because they can ask you to if they want. Better to know and be prepared than not have them if you need them.

The IPH is a good book to have as well. Finally the FAA is filling in the gaps in the old texts, with some of these latest updates. The PDF files are free online if you want to check them out, but it may be a good idea to have the printed version for reference.

Or you could just click the little printer icon.

Well I just went ahead and ordered it, probably cheaper just to buy it than waste all that ink printing out 288 pages

Yeah, but printing it, in color, will cost quite a bit more if you are paying for supplies. Lots of color pictures in there. So, let us just assume an insane-cheap per page cost of 10cents for paper and ink. Cost you almost $29 to print it out at that price. Then you'd likely want some way to bind it.

Or just go here: http://www.marvgolden.com/books/instrumentprochdbk.htm

or your local pilot shop, for about the same price.

Yeah, didn't realize it was that big.

Incidentally, I went to my "local" pilot shop today. Why you keep PTSs and oral guides locked up when they are three feet in front of the counter is beyond me. It took ten minutes for me to find someone to unlock the case......
