Study route for the CFI written.

I have the FOI knocked out already. Been studying the jepp CFI manual, the majority of the written is on commercial stuff if I remember right? What should I focus my review on? Thanks!
 
If you're simply talking about the written test you shouldn't have to worry to much. The FOI is the only real new material. The CFI and the CFII writtens are the same as the Commercial and the Instrument. If you still remember that stuff you should be golden.
 
I know it was stated facetiously, but you really need to know "everything." My oral hit on FOI, airspace limitations, 61-65, certification standards (both pilot and airplane), PTS logistics, solo requirements, aeromedical issues, and a variety of other regulatory potpourri. It's all fair game. Think situationally, for example:

- I'm a pre-solo student. How would you go about soloing me? What do you need to teach me? What does my initial solo endorsement entitle me to do?
- I'm trying to learn a lazy eight for the commercial PTS: can you break it down to me in simple terms?

I'm currently studying for CFI for the second time (did it two years ago, worked, quit, got a non-av job, now I'm going back). I condensed the most imperative points of the FOI, then typed them all and hung them on the wall. Any time I'm making a lesson plan, I reference that list. It helps me decide what's really important. My problem is that I love systems, so without those key points in mind, my lessons end up too technical and far off the focus point.

I'm doing the instrument course first, then commercial, then private, since in my opinion it's working from the most amount of information (and in some cases minutea) to the least. I hope to judge the correct amount of information to withhold from the private course this way.


Aside from that... flash cards are only 44 cents for a 100 pack at Target. Next time I'm there, I'll ask if they give any price breaks for a pallet.

My experience was that the Jepp CFI manual was pretty much worthless. For the FIA exam, just grab the Gliem Written exam guide.
 
Use FAA publications and have them tabbed out. (PHAK, AFH, FAR, AIM, instructors handbook) You will be golden with these.
