Student Pilot's and epaulets...?

Am I the only one that hates the pilot uniform on student pilots. I really cannot understand the benefit of all theses schools requiring a uniform that the students are going to HAVE to wear for the rest of their careers anyway.

I say revolt.

Honestly, what are the pros and cons

Cons -
embarrassment factor
too hot
you have to wash the neck out constantly...
extra costs
ambiguous stripe system different at every school

feel free to enlighten me

It was kinda twofold, I trained and taught witht he stripe system, and sometimes it was almost an accomplishment adding the stripes. But looking back it was kinda dumb.

I think it's foolish for flight instructor's to wear it. Ooh, look at me, captain authority in my mighty 172 Chickenhawk all weather interceptor/night fighter.

I think it's goofy for instructors to wear the monkey suit. It makes us look like something we're not and it's not very practical. Especially in the summer when it's 99 degrees out with no AC. If I were king of the world for a day I would wear flip flops, a tank top, and cargo shorts to work...but that's just me

I HATE the blue shirts too. DCA used to make the students wear blue and private students had no stripes, so it looked really stupid. Let students wear what they want.

Believe me...once you are required to wear the monkey suit, it is no longer cool (that of course would be implying it ever was). We would wear shorts and flip flops in the RJ if we could.

I don't get it. If I could fly my airplane in shorts, flip flops (or boat shoes) and a shirt, I so would!

I wear em to my non aviation job just so they will all know I'm a pilot! Speaking of which, I gotta find my ray-bans, bomber jacket and toss some gel in my hair then it's off to work!
