Student Loans

I am a junior in high school and ever since 6th grade have dreamed of becoming a pilot with a major airlines. However, staying on this career path has been discouraging when finding out how much everything cost. I will be able to get a few scholarships because my grades are high but without that Im looking at about 80,000 dollars for a degree and training. With little financial means I am wondering if anyone has experience with student loans of this dollar amount and what bank or loan did you get? Thank you.

For the degree, go with the standards: scholarships and grants first supplemented with student loans or (even better) saved cash. For flight training, cash is your best option, but loans are available from Sallie Mae, Key Bank and Pilot Finance. You might have to dig to find a flight school that offers financing. I've always used Sallie Mae (mostly b/c that was my only option at my school), but I've heard positives about Key Bank, too.

The majority of my school funding has came from student loans. My parents have helped a lot with PLUS loans from Bank One and I have Stafford Loans (i think those are the correct loan names). Mine are deferred until after I graduate so I don't know what the payments will look like for sure. A few of my other friends have used Sallie Mae with good results. Grants have also helped a little but won't pay for it all. I strongly suggest applying to as many scholarships as practicable. All I can do is let you know that loans are out there and an option for that amount, but again recommend searching for alternatives to help. Hope this helps. Good luck and keep working toward your goals.
