Student loan forgiveness or reduced payment options

Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow, right?
I like procrastination as much as the next person, but when it comes to costing me MORE money, I do what I can to mitigate that. I'm hoping to have my loans repaid in full in a year or so here. That will take the vast majority of my income, but that's ok.

It's a more than the high road. By not paying now, you're going to pay a crap ton more in the future.
I can't pay now, I literally do not have the money to pay. Is it my responsibility to pay, yes, but there is no money, so I can't, right now. If I get that good paying job tomorrow and I can pay, I'll do it, and it may mean paying more. For some it may not. For example, if I were to work full time in the guard for the next 10 years, I would end up paying less, as all is forgiven after 10 years. A teacher that does not make much, may qualify for paying 0 every year for those 10 years, and his or hers are forgiven. Yes if I stay on the airline track, I will have to start paying as I earn more, but after 25 years, the rest is forgiven. It just depends on the persons situation. Again I'm not saying right or wrong, I'm just saying this is what is out there, use it or don't, I don't care.

You know you just got banned on APC for started this exact same thread.

Pay your obligations.

I wish they would reinstate debtors' prisons for people that try and pawn off their lawful obligations on others.

I used to be a mod at APC so I took a little interest in your comment. He didn't get banned because of the thread topic. There seems to be other issues. There is so little moderation at that site anymore I can't imagine what was said (and removed). But the topic in and of itself wasn't the issue.

Well I'm on year two at the third worse paying regional, and have kids and their mom to support, as well as hotel rooms to buy just so I can work at this regional. The majority f my money can't go to the loans but congrats to you.

I got kicked off because some dude started judging and saying stuff to me, and said I wasn't being a man so I told him to F off and that if he wanted to see how much of a man I was he could come over and I'd give him an kicking.

So given that you took some huge loans to pay for education, and now find yourself unable to obtain a job which allows you to repay them, do you regret any of the decisions you have made? What would be your advice to someone considering this profession?

What, did you join just to come over here and troll? Two posts, and only in this thread? Ever been in a financial pickle where if you had to choose between paying a loan, or eating and feeding children? I have. The guy posted up some info to help people who are in that exact position. Lay off dude.

You want to know if I think I'm entitled to the program. Of course not, I'm entitled to nothing. But this is the hole I'm in, yes it's my fault, yes if I knew then what I knew now, I could've came out with much less debt. But in this world I am fighting for mine and my kids survival. No ones going to pay my rent or buy my kids food after I've made my student loan payment because it's the right thing to do. If there's a program that's going to help me get ahead, I'm using it. Maybe when corporations stop using available tax loopholes, bankruptcy and bailouts to get out of their debt, I might feel bad about it. I'm not some dead beat looking for a hand out, I'm a hard worker fighting for my survival, and trying to put myself in a position where I can pay for my kids college, so we don't have two more people in this position 18 years from now.

I really don't think that's what he was asking. And yes, if something is available to you make use of it.

Allow me to opine. The profession is what it is. It hasn't changed much since I started paying attention in the 70's. Since the profession can be...difficult, in the beginning, it's best to pursue it as a single person, without having to worry about supporting a family. My advice would be to stay single and take on as little debt as possible, even if this means it takes longer. Get a job fueling planes or working the ramp to get contacts and be close to the biz. Get your PPL before you take the plunge so you are sure it's a good fit. Have a lot of patience as it often takes years to work your way up. I was 12 years from PPL to career worthy job and I was really lucky.

And by the way, the student loan system ... as most institutions where money is made off of people's ignorance ... is a terrible racket. They do their best to gloss over all of the nasty stuff, preying upon the ignorant. It's hard for me to find fault with people who thought they were doing the right thing by pursuing education without the requisite knowledge of the industry -- why would an entrant know how sleazy things are before they signed on the dotted line? To the outside world, Aviation is shiny and respectable, full of honest, reputable professionals. Really! Believe it or not. Why would they suspect that they're being fed a sales pitch when they sit down in the flight school manager's office?

It's not just aviation, of course. Much of the education system is the same way. Sometimes we remind me of a pre-Ferenginar.

The system be broken, yarr.

Troll, no. But that's an accusation to be expected by someone that disagrees with a new poster. As for my response to this thread, like the OP says himself..... Call it like I see it.
Give it up man, I don't care if you disagree. Just stop following me around the internet trying to start crap, that's like some jealous girlfriend b.s. i'll pay my 'obligation' when I'm good and ready, not because you told me to.
