Struggles with understanding ATIS

Hey everyone...

Just a lil question...does the brand of headset you wear have any effect on the quality of hearing of ATIS? I'm using a DC headset during my ground training to get used to switching to different freq's, tuning comm/nav stuff and struggle mightily with understanding that robotic, snowy voice on ATIS.

Maybe one with a "squelch"-type option? Would a Bose X make a difference?

is it the actual human voice of the ATIS (they sometimes speak robotic) or is it the robot from an AWOS?

robotic, snowy voice on ATIS.

The FAA's new plan to save money: Outsource tower jobs to Robots!

is your volume turned up all the way?

I had this problem during my first few hours.

ATIS is not automated at all, the tower controllers type the broadcast into this.

Thats funny stuff right there.
The first time I heard the SLC ATIS I didn't understand a single word. By the way, a question for all of you that fly all over the country, are most atis transmissions as long as the one at SLC? If you miss the letter at Slc you gotta wait a half hour for it to play through
