my financial situation has changed and I'm not flying as much as I would like so I'm getting rid of my stratus II. Used maybe 5 times. Works great. Includes box, charger, manual, and sticky dash pad. Let me know if you have any questions. $750.00

Hopefully not panel mounted and not thousands of dollars. I think the cheapest ADS-B out right now is $2500 plus install.

Well, it is panel mounted. I don't think you're getting away from that, but it looks like sub-$2,000 units are coming soon. The Appareo ADS-B Out option is a Mode S transponder with a built-in WAAS GPS, and you can also hard mount the Stratus 2 behind it in the panel to have it constantly connected to a power source. I believe the expected price is about $3.5k. I'm leaning towards getting one next year after competition drives the price down a bit more.

If it's still 2k in 2020 that might work. I'd like to see which model becomes the dominate market force much like the Garmin 430W is THE GPS box to have at an affordable price. To be honest though, what I would really like to see is the requirements for ADS-B be the same as a mode-C transponder is now. That is, no requirement under class C. I think everything else is the same.
I'd never need it if they made that one change.

It's a safety issue, so I wouldn't count on that change. I think the FAA is sticking to their guns (and I agree with them).

The problem with waiting until too late is that that's what everyone is doing, and there will be a couple hundred thousand airplanes lined up at avionics shops in 2019. Something like 5% of GA aircraft have been equipped so far. It's going to be a nightmare when we get closer to 2020. That's why I'm just going to bite the bullet next year.

There is 1 class C airport in this state, so I think I'll be ok. I just don't like that it cuts off the 1 airport under the outer shelf. I mean I'd imagine half of the airplanes that fly under the C here don't even have electrical systems.

Stratus is coming out with a new product soon?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, the company's name is Appereo, actually. Stratus is just a product. The new ADS-B Out product is called Stratus ESG. It's basically a Mode S transponder that is capable of being hardwired to a Stratus 2 ADS-B In receiver. So with the two connected, you've got a complete ADS-B In/Out solution. You just have to display the In portion on your tablet instead of on your panel.

Here's a link to the new product: https://www.appareo.com/aviation/ads-b-out/

Interesting product, thanks. Not the cheapest solution but with the cheaper ones you don't get a new transponder.

Of course ADS-B in is not required, just out.

I'm betting they'll be reducing the price over the next year or so. I haven't decided if I'm going with this or something that can display In on the panel, but this is at least a decent option.

Why the interface cable from Stratus II to the transponder? Stratus II works fine without the transponder.
