Strange Day Part #2

Luckily -->I<-- personally saw nothing so I don't have to worry about black helicopters overhead or a court order to seek psychological testing, but climbing over TNP yesterday an Airbus pilot reported some unidentifiable object on climbout.

LA Center thought it could be a weather balloon because she saw nothing on radar but the pilot on the radio said it looked nothing like a weather balloon.

If anyone has a ZLA archive from yesterday on freq 127.52 around 5pm, you might want to have a listen!

(Psst: It was probably a weather balloon!)

Ha... I had a goofy one happen yesterday too. We were at FL320 going over WV enroute to Akron when something crossed the TCAS screen 2000 feet above us. The thing was that it moved from near the top left to the bottom right in about 5 seconds and I had the screen set at 80 mile range (so it moved around 160 miles in 5 seconds). I think it was just a glitch but the captain said it was probably a little green ship:nana2:

Yeah, it's gotten awful strange out there since they've started putting transponders on the UFOs.

:)

Is MikeD flying around again in that saucer from Area 51? haha

Sorry BobDDuck, ya that was me. I did a few mods to the 152 and decided to take it out and see how it flew. I must have been cutting back the power if you where able to have me on for 5 seconds. I prefer it to be a quick screen flash and than really let people wonder.

Well, you were over WV and going to CAK! You see the 747SP on field at CAK?

Hahahahhahah.

Hey Doug, I know what it was. No joke. I almost ran into it about 3-4 months ago. it's an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that the military is using for test flights. It flies outta TNP I think. We almost flew into it climbing outta 10,000ft in the coachella valley from PSP. It didn't appear on radar, no TCAS, when I querried center about it they said they had nothing. It looked very weirdly shaped. It was black in color. It had a swept shaped wing. We were probably within a mile of hitting it. I can't beleive the military doesn't give a sh*it that they could potentially hit a U.S. Commercial flight and kill everyone on board.

mrivc211, I am telling you, its my all black 152. Ohh I see that you guys have seen my 747SP as well. JK but thats not cool, thats 2 near accidents here on 1 forum. It makes you wonder how many close calls there have been with other pilots out there.

I almost wacked a weather balloon over Louisiana a few years ago and I'm still SHOCKED that the FAA doesn't require a transponder on those things.

On the 747SP at CAK

Yeah, it is still there. Tower won't tell us who's it is.

I cant remember the owners name, but it is used for religious trips out of country. Someone else here on the board new more about it at one time.
