Stolen Valor, fake VMF-214 Blacksheep and figher ace

Yeah, the book said the hole in Hoeft's wing was a 4 ft diameter hole!!! Holy crap....what he did sounds incredible and I think he probably deserved more than he felt he did. Afterall, I used to have to hear about E-2 NFO's talk about their combat time...to go along with their bronze stars :dunno:

Hoeft was a humble guy and a quiet fellow who came out of BUFFs when he got his Thud assignment. Not your typical meat eater and it seemed his flight suit was a bit too large as when he talked, you had to listen closely as he spoke softly and often tugged at the shoulders of the flight suit that seemed more like a bag on him. Still, he had the 100 mission patch. Another class mate ran into him years later and Hoeft had gone back to school and had become a minister. Makes me chuckle thinking about it...

Ha, it came out when I was 6 years old but don't remember watching it until I was a teenager. However, thank you, I am getting old lol
:) Reruns then...
I was about 8, and I consider myself a semi-geezer. I remember watching it in primetime in the mid 70's.

My grandpa lied about his age(he was only 16), joined the Marines, and left everything behind to go get his hands dirty and liberate Europe from the Nazis. Of course by the time he was ready to deploy he ended up in the Pacific. He's 90 now, and there are still stories of him losing friends and about the people he had to kill that make him tear up about 70 years after the fact. And this is one hard-assed man. With the sacrifices of people like him, that entire generation, it makes me sick to read about something like this. I'm a big supporter of all servicemen, but a WWII impostor especially makes my blood boil.
