Stinson Model O

WacoFan

Bigly
In addition to Waco's, I really, really like Stinson's - particularly the Stinson SM8A and the Reliant series. Anyway, there was a Stinson that was built that I had only seen pictures of, and none exist anymore called the "Model O" which was basically a Reliant wing (distinctive gull-wing) but an open cockpit, parasol format. Got pictures today of a replica that is being built and thought I would share. Lycoming powered. It is also neat to see airplanes just prior to cover.

I know....I remembered.....guess I should have used a different emoticon!

Those were fun days!

I thought I was being sneaky and nobody would tie the two together - "Stinson Jr." at one place, "WacoFan" at another. Didn't think anyone would ever tie the two together!:D

That thing is going to be very nice!

Agreed. I am really, really impressed with the covering systems available now. Look at that finish - and it will look wet like that for years. Compare to the "good old days" when we covered this airplane in grade-A cotton.

To get a finish like that required hand-rubbed dope. 30 coats of hand-rubbed dope. That was a big airplane to wet-sand thirty times to get the finish the way we wanted. Add to that the weight of 30 coats of dope and todays synthetic fabrics and covering systems are amazingly superior.

Yes they are.

We actually had the overall empty weight of my Citabria go down when we recovered the airplane.
