I'm in process of editing an new video. I took my old Alaska flying footage from 1996 and am putting it to music. I've got enough to make a 10-15 minute video....

I'd like to poll the audience: would you rather a longer video with lots of footage and a couple hip songs, or just one 3-5 minute video with just the highlights.

It's hard to go through and pick just a little from here and there- there's just too much fun stuff!

Let me know!

I lean toward a shorter version -- mostly because the vast majority of my time on JC is while i'm at the office. Shhhhhhh.

both?

What kind of camera are you using for these videos? Would a regular digital camera with a movie mode that has 640x480 resolution cut it for that kind of stuff?

the question is: will the longer version be too long to download and/or too bad resolution wise? or are you planning on "streaming it" on your website?

I agree that the longer version would be better, but if it's too large in file size, it may be hard for people to download unless you plan on having it streamed on your website, in which case, they don't need to download it.

mmm... used a state of the art Super8 video camera... at least it was state of the art in '96. The video I have was transferred to VHS, then to my computer, so it falls short of digital quality video. Plus, I was stupid and had the time and date stamp rolling on it.. ugh, it's annoying. Oh well...

I'm hoping aloft will come through for me again and host it on his webspace...

Can you have both available?

I think maybe I will make both... and have a high and low res. version of both available. Just like the other videos.

...now if I could just quit playing Half Life 2 and get to work on the video...

Cool, I think making videos/digital movies in flight can be very inspiring. The skywest one was great!

I am seriously considering doing it for students when I find a CFI job here in Denver. I am actually hoping it becomes a learning tool in helping students with flows and so on, not to mention just being something neat to show your friends.

For people who have never done a stall before they may not have any clue as to what it is. I think showing them before a flight how to do it the right way will ease their tensions and make for a more productive lesson. Then if possible (safety permitting) record them doing the maneuver and show it to them so you can compare the proper way and then how they measure up to it.

Chris,

If you have a lot of footage, you might just make several shorter ones, which each one having a theme, i.e. the 207s, the 206s, stinsons, etc. (you ever fly the Navajos?)

It might be the best way to keep everyone happy.

And of course, if that doesn't work, I vote for the super deluxe long version.

I vote for longer.

I played your CRJ video for an aviation class of mine and it was a hit. Thanks for taking the time and sharing with the group!!

Go for the longer version.

BTW, is that the sticker you made in your avatar? It looks sweet, I want one.
