State of the industry?

Hey everyone. Been busy for a while doing my AME(Can A&P) finals but I'm back now. I was wondering if you guys have been noticing a slow down in hiring at the regionals and a reduction of students enroling for flight training. I'm concerned what the industry will be like in about a year when I will be instructing. Now I do realize that no one has a crystal ball and the future can change in a heart beat but was just looking for some educated thoughts on this.

Cheers

Well I got calls 2 weeks ago from Colgan, and ASA. Im waiting to take my ATPw next week for Pinnacle, and XJET I hear is hiring through July or end of summer. So from what it seems (from my POV) is that we're on the down swing of the hiring cycle for this season, but its still going strong. You just never know though.

Well, thats good to hear Nole. I just hope I don't miss the boat when I become employable. It's a tough business we are involved in, but it's better than sitting in a cubicle for 8 hrs a day .

I bet people that work in cubicle dont complain as much as pilots. And I am almost certain they dont have entire forums dedicated to their complaints. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I work 55 hours a week fly 100/mo. Not much free time for me.

Last month I spent 200 hrs TAFB, and flew 55 hours, but credited 100, and had 18 days off. The sad thing is even with per diem I only brought in $2750 :( (second year pay starts in 3 months with a 42% raise)...

As for the state of the industry, I began my commercial a few days prior to 9/11. It took me 5 months to get a CFI job in 2003, and I had to move 1100 miles away.

The hiring going on right now is infinately better than back then, and I don't really expect it to get to that point unless the camel jockeys cut off our oil...
