Starting Aviation Training: What is The Best way

Hello, I am a junior college student from Japan and am just about finished. Upon completing my associates degree, I want to start pilot training to pursue my dream, since I was a little kid, which is to become a commercial airline pilot. And I just have a few questions about how to start my training.

Althoug I am an American citizen ( my mom is American), English is not my first language. I can understand casual conversations normally and can reak OK. However, when the language becomes more technical, and starts to use hard words, I will get lost and will not be able to understand the full meanings of the conversation or the diolog I am reading. My question is, is this a major problem upon training for Flying? I mean, it is obvious that there will be a lot of hard vocabulary and phrases that I will come across when studying for flying, and is it impossible for a non native english speaker to learn to fly in America?
What is the best way to start flight training. College Aviation Programs, private fight programs (Flight safty, DCA, PanAm etc), or at a local airport. There is a state college that has an aviation program there which is called Utah Vally State College by where I am going to school, and I am leaning toward that at this point. Has anybody heard of this school and if have, is it a goood school? Also the private flight programs ( Flight safty, DCA, PanAm etc) are very apealing to me also. Are these a better idea for my age (24). Or just to do the training at a local airport?

Sorry it is very long. I will apreciate answers. Thank you.

You would get much more answers if you answered this on the General forum rather than the collegiate aviation forum.

Well man don't let anything get in the way of your dreams, except money LOL. As far as your problem, there is no problem. If you can pass your Associates degree with a few english classes in it you are set. But if u personally think that you won't be able to do it, then i suggest take an ESL class or some english lesson that should boost your confidence and skills up. Since you are an American citizen, getting admited won't be a problem with your english.

Well, personally , just from what you typed there I dont think you would have much of a problem.

Get the jeppesen textbook and go over all the terms in the glossary and refrence page.

As far as training, it depends on a lot of factors....Just keep in mind that unless you live off a trust fund (in other words you are rich) then I would suggest finding a frugal way to obtain your ratings. Flight Safety im sure is a fine school, but you can get awesome instruction using decent airplanes with a much lower cost. That program in salt lake is a fine one, and is reasonable as far as the price goes.

ill be moving back to Utah next fall, hope to see you there.

PS...go to google and type in "100 words every college student should know"

if you memorise those and look through the jeppesen textbook, you will most likely know more english than many americans.

I think more college students should know how to spell the word college. So many think it's collAge that I just want to smack them.
