Starting a banner tow company

If you get serious and want a little advice or information on waiver requirements then let me know. I helped a guy get through this a while back to tow with a PT-17 of all things. It might take a little while...

Just fantasizing in my head. How much do you think it would cost to start a banner tow company from scratch? Including not having the plane yet.

Take it from a middle-aged guy who has owned 6 different businesses over 30 years. For gods sake Wayland - Run away!!! Run Away!!!!

Seriously - If you are going to do it. Do very thorough market research - this is the type of service that companies cut back on in a down economy. Do not hire any employees at least until and unless you are making a ridiculous profit. Payroll and insurance will eat you alive. Do not borrow the money unless it's from a rich friend or relative that you won't mind becoming estranged from(you may not even be able to find bank financing) - and make sure you can afford to lose every stinking cent you put into it and still be OK.

If you need an employee, I'd work in exchange for a negotiable amount of time in the airplane :)

Is there a term equivalent to SJS for old questionably maintained GA aircraft? In his defense, the one time I got to do low flying in a J-3 with the door open was pretty badass. :rawk: (But don't do it for free!)

ESSCO use to sell some nice manuals on how to start something in aviation. I have the charter/cargo/air ambulance one.
