Starship??!

When Beech decided to scrap the Starship, the owner of this plane came to Wichita and made a deal with Beech. He bought, not only ALL of the remaining in stock parts for the Starship but also most of the production jigs used to build it. I believe he also purchased the rights for parts building from Beech. In recent years, he used his Starship as a chase plane for SpaceShip One test flights. Rutan said it was the only aircraft that had both the speed and the slow maneuvering capabilities to partner in flight with the SpaceShip.

There was a great article about this in either Flying or AOPA Pilot a few years ago.

Great airplane!! I think the certification and lack of knowledge of composites screwed this airplane.
 
I've got some pics of 44L around here. It was on the ramp at TKI for a couple days when I was working on my PPL back in '08 or so. If I can figure how to get them moved I'll post.
