St. Louis Airspace changes

What do you guys think of the new STL airspace? It is going to be a PITA. Who would have thought that a new runway would make that big of a difference.

Discussion?

aopa seems to like it.

looks pretty simple and straightforward to me, i'd have no problems operating in or around it. Ive instructed in/under the DFW bravo and Wash DC bravo though, both of which are much more complicated (for differing reasons) so perhaps im biased :) (the DFW bravo itself isnt complicated, its the billion towered airports and respective airspace undernath the bravo that make it a pain, without flight following anyway. in DC its the ADIZ and FRZ that make it a pain)

also just noticed that bravo only goes up to 8000, less work to go over the top if you wanted.

Yeah I have operated in more complicated airspace but it basically pushed our practice areas out further because of the increase in size. It really isn't that bad but for the VFR stuff (especially the multi engine stuff), we now have to go way out there just to breath.

Kinda problematic for my home airport (3sq) in that there's only going to be a 100 ft margin between the floor of STL class B (1700 ft) and overflight of the field (@ 1600, normal pattern is 1100) to circle to enter the pattern.

Altimeter setting, altimeter error , etc. could cause one to bust the class bravo somewhat easily if there's only 100 ft margin.

Then don't overfly the field 500 AGL. Yes, it might cause you to look around more, but at my airport for example, pattern altitude is 1900 feet, where the Indianapolis Class C starts at 2100. If anything, you could overfly 300 feet above pattern altitude, as that provides plenty of clearance from other aircraft.

I thought all class B airspace went from SFC/100.

10k is the "default", but each bravo is tailored to the specific requirements to the airport(s) served.

Have any of you guys ever flown over class B while VFR? I have been thinking about doing a photo flight over Denver's class B. It goes up to 12000MSL so I should be able to do some circling over that and not have to worry about oxygen requirements as long as I stay under 12,500.

Just wondering if a plane circling over a class B airport will get F-16s circling around me.
