It also comes with the code for the "study buddy" written prep that was not used (I didn't have to take a written test). Its in like new condition with everything that come with it on Sporty's website.

Anybody know how this compares to the King School DVD course? It's significantly cheaper and I'm wondering if it's one of those "you get what you pay for" type of situations.

Well I can't compare the Private programs but have used the King course for my Helicopter Instrument Written. Basically King is made just to address the written (unless you buy both courses) Sporty's course is more of a complete ground school type program. Go to their websites and watch the demos of their programs it will give you a good idea of what to expect.
 
The new sporty's courses have some really good graphics. Sporty's does include more information that will assist in the training process compared to King. If you ask me both are on the dry side but Sporty's i a bit less.
 
A friend of mine recently started working on his Private, he bought the King stuff but just cannot bear to sit through it so he went out and bought the Sporty's stuff too and he really likes that. I've seen part of it and it seems very well produced. He hasn't taken his written so I cannot say how well prepared he'll be. Hope that helps...
