Spirit getting 75 more airbuses?

Why can't you make over 200K a year AND have a great QOL? You guys have Stockholm Syndrome bad. You are resigned to the fact that you will have neither, or best case scenario for you, one of the two. There are airlines out there where you can have both and have it in abundance.

Mkay, I'm listening, and these bastions of awesome would be?

He does have a point, however, being a realist, if you look at the numbers, there will be some of us who get to those amazing gigs, and many, many more who don't. On my list of "bastions of awesome" are UPS, FedEx, and SouthWest.

Today...

But those "Bastions of Awesomeness" are on a very fickle list and change over time.

Remember, once upon a time, the end-all be-all place to be in the airline business was Pan Am. Big jets flying everywhere and you could afford "A Cadillac a Month" on captain's salary with all the young, certified-thin nubile flight attendants you could handle.

Why all the hate for spirit?
That's what haters do, they hate.

Anyway, I was very surprised to hear it, but I can see it. Unlike Allegiant, they aren't afraid to go head to head with big airlines. They just launched LAS-OAK, which has been served by Southwest forever, and across the Bay Virgin America, United, Southwest, and US Airways are doing it from SFO. Yet, with their oddly timed few frequencies, they manage to sell out almost every weekend, and they have become very, very popular with the...how to put this..."LCC clientele" out here. I'm very impressed since a few months ago no one out here had really heard of Spirit.

Oh, I'm not a hater. Just fighting the epic eternal battle between the golden handcuffs and shiny jet syndrome.

(that could be a thread unto itself)

I have had a few professors that were Spirit captains and they loved it except one of the Caribbean destinations.

The biggest problem I see is payrates that very closely mirror Virgin America but are dramatically lower than jetBlue and other Airbus narrowbody operators. Granted there is room for improvement, and it's always good to get in on the ground floor of something, but for the qualified candidate with substantial experience who would typically take a paycut for a few years to go to work for a "major" (for lack of a better term) he or she will be looking for the break even point -- that point at which the loss you take for those first few years is erased -- and then higher pay during subsequent years. Since you can't count on upgrades in any definite timeframe (sure, i'll be the one who says it.) you really need to see that value proposition exist in the copilot payrates. I just don't see that at Spirit.

Ah, but you don't know our airline. One can't compare and contrast if one does not know the details. Also, our benefits are far superior to those of others in our niche. That's worth thousands per year too.

I'm not telling you what I make. But you are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off base with your assumptions about what we can make at Spirit.

Spot on.

Yes, we have a nasty way of doing that! Our planes are always full. And we are making money. And we are growing.

Again, I didn't go to Spirit for SJS. I had better things to do with my qualifications. I don't understand your point.

If Hired at Spirit, are people going right to class or are they being placed in a pool for future classes? Does anyone know when the next 2 classes they have scheduled are?
Thanks!

Wasn't suggesting you did. I am always fighting that battle between SJS and the golden handcuffs.

Researching potential employers helps either encourage or discourage recreational job-hopping. (is there a support group for people like me?) lol

I'm sorry because I don't know. We have one plane to be delivered in December ( I assume hiring is done for this plane) and 7 in 2012.

I always wondered why Spirit only has 2 A321s, maybe the orders for that

Those in charge don't do anything that doesn't make money. What they order or where they fly or how frequently they fly or how much they charge is all up to them. They do a good job because they seem to be making a lot of money doing what they do.

I just fly airplanes. I do it well and I get paid to do it!

Well this freight dawg has applied to Spirit. It would be a nice transition for me and I want to move down to FLL. I'm a little short on the Total time and I don't have the FMS or Glass time that preferred. But heres hoping to making some friends there who can push my stuff to the top of the pile!

Pretty large expansion in Dallas, going to be starting service to LGA, BOS, ATL, MCO to add to the all ready started ORD service.
