Spirit getting 75 more airbuses?

It's all relative to where they were working before spirit. Sounds like spirit was a step up for both of them, so logically, they will "love it" compared to where they were before. Now, if someone that worked for a higher tiered carrier and got furloughed and went to spirit, then they probably wouldn't "love it" so much as compared to where they came from, spirit is most certainly a step backwards in almost all respects.

So what's your point?

Ever hear the saying it's all relative?

BTW I'm not certain I would never go 121 but as of now I have absolutely no interest in any 121 carrier.

Look, we all have to look critically at these opportunities. It isn't all about pay, shiny jets, or Caribbean overnights. Most people would take a pay cut for a job like this -- perhaps for many years. You need to examine Spirit for what it is and make the personal decision as to whether the benefits outweigh the costs.

It is responsible to do this before you pursue any new job.

Ugh. Give me a break! I did not leave to go to Spirit out of despiration. I had a ton of hours and PIC time as did many or most.

The QOL at Spirit is an industry standard that I hope all the unions at the legacy carriers will want to emulate. After all, Millenials or Gen Y's want quality of life over everything, says the research provided by my HRDiva wife. You won't have QOL unless you emulate what we have in our contract. Money isn't everything. Being with family and friends is so important; we have that in our contract.

Gotta go to work now...to be back home for family on Thursday...

The prestige of flying the mighty Airbus..... silly.

I admit, flying a grownup airplane is part of it but a very small part of it.

What "hate"?

Maybe I misunderstood you but your tone about spirit is that it's a lower end airline and that is not true.

To each his own. I agree, from a regional pilot anything is better than where we are at but that doesn't mean I would go to just anywhere.

I agree, that is why I'm trying to get on with them asap.

And he doesn't even work for big brown....

Because he is looking for an opportunity to point out that he is mr super awesome brown package delivery pilot and we aren't and every other job sucks.

I must be missing something. Can anyone clue me in?

It is very easy to look at the pay and not see the hidden goodies I the contract.

I am looking at spirit for the QOL aspect. Spirit will have my app when I have some more experience.

What are some of the hidden "goodies" in the spirit contract? What makes thier QOL allegedly so outstanding?

Lostplanetairman can answer that question better than I.

I'm curious, who do you fly for? UPS maybe?

UPS use to be a place where the "rejects" were going after they couldn't make the cut at the majors. At least that is how it was viewed during the 80s and 90s. Spirit is a smaller and newer airline than most majors and still needs some time for the contract to mature. Sometimes a place that seems like a risk could end up being a gold mine for a pilot. Fedex, UPS, and Southwest were all risks at one point and seemed to have worked out extremely well for their pilots while the "established" airlines have gotten the shaft in the mean time.

Would I love to work at UPS or some other top notch place. You bet. I'll have my app in once I get the experience they want (shuttle landings will be tough to get these days). I'm a person that has no problems with looking at several good opportunities and attempting to make one of them work. Put the apps in wherever you are qualified. You never know who may call first.

Obviously there are bad "major" airlines out there, but Spirit isn't one of them. Especially with the work they put in to improve their last contract I can see their heads are on straight. Who knows what the next contract will look like with this pilot group.

Back on the subject of Spirit and an aircraft order. Have any of you spirit guys heard anything about when these planes are supposed to start coming? Also does spirit run an job fairs for people without an internal?

Curiously, what's so bad about Spirit? They seem like most other 121 airlines from what I know of them, which admittedly isn't a ton.

And chalk up another guy who wants nothing to do with 121 pax ops. Just no interest in it. Other who do it and like it, or desire for it, more power to them. Good on them.

The biggest problem I see is payrates that very closely mirror Virgin America but are dramatically lower than jetBlue and other Airbus narrowbody operators. Granted there is room for improvement, and it's always good to get in on the ground floor of something, but for the qualified candidate with substantial experience who would typically take a paycut for a few years to go to work for a "major" (for lack of a better term) he or she will be looking for the break even point -- that point at which the loss you take for those first few years is erased -- and then higher pay during subsequent years. Since you can't count on upgrades in any definite timeframe (sure, i'll be the one who says it.) you really need to see that value proposition exist in the copilot payrates. I just don't see that at Spirit.

It's the "Every airline sucks except the one ****I**** (say I but no one really knows if I really) work for" syndrome.

Airbus makes a great jet.

We've got good people working for Spirit that seem happy.

Fly jets. Make money. Drink beer. No one needs to engage in an "aero penis"-measuring contest. Because all y'all are going to lose to XForces, KLB, Max and I anyway cuz "It's twoo it's twoo".

Have a great Turkey Day folks! Atch cha cha CHA!

I've had my resume in at Spirit for over a year now. I'd love for the phone to ring and have Spirit HR on the other line!

Can you tell us more about the QOL things in the contract? Are there lots of day trips and two day trips? If I could do that out of this new LAS base I would be happy, I don't need to make 200K a year, QOL is FAR more important than pay rates for me.. These crappy regional 4-6 day trips make me want to quit this career forever and never look back..

Why can't you make over 200K a year AND have a great QOL? You guys have Stockholm Syndrome bad. You are resigned to the fact that you will have neither, or best case scenario for you, one of the two. There are airlines out there where you can have both and have it in abundance.
