Spirit Furloughing

Problem is, articles like that will affect customer behavior.

For example, June is coming soon and we always book our tickets LAX-DTW on Spirit. Now with this news, I’m exploring other options. The only other nonstop is Delta. Connecting of course has numerous options, but not sure which way to go yet.

But this news is stopping me from wanting to book the nonstop Spirit flight in June, because I just don’t feel they will make it. Now how many other consumers are in that same boat?

Maybe but most non aviation people I talk to don’t even know spirit has filed bankruptcy, and it’s happened twice now. For sure those paying attention will be smart about purchasing but a majority of people buying spirit tickets are just looking for the cheapest options and have no idea what news is going on in the airline world.

It's funny how Indian Facebook (LinkedIN) seems convinced Southernjets will rise to the top due to their decision to buy a refinery. According to a recent earnings call, it saves them about $.08 per gallon. Not trivial, but people don't seem to realize that they still have to buy the crude.

Buy the crude. Plus having all the overall costs of running and maintaining a refinery that you own. Or is the $.06/ gal including those costs?

Do not discount this but if NK fails because of increased pressure from fuel costs, they won't be the only one.
Between the political predilections of a lot of the mob of living dunning-Kruger examples known as “airline pilots”, the political retribution that’s been leveraged against businesses that dare speak out about the effects of Dear Leader’s various evil and moronic policies, and the way investor actions are increasingly detached from reality, my observation is that the entire industry is collectively whistling past the graveyard right now. In a rational universe without those things, a business like ours experiencing a near doubling in the cost of their second largest line item would be immediately snapping into emergency cost saving mode. I’m afraid that when reality suddenly does collide with the Trump reality distortion bubble, a lot of us are not going to be in good shape.

True story. We are literally standing on the edge of a sandy cliff. The oil shock has not hit the states yet, but it’s on its way, and likely unstoppable. This is a pretty good breakdown of what we are up against, and it will hurt.

I mean our CEO invoked 9/11, 2008, and COVID in his email about the Q1 results and despite how self important pilots like to feel I’m gonna go with “that wasn’t just attempting to influence the JCBA negotiations”.
