You are correctSpirit is in the position they are in because of their management. Not legacy airlines.

This article suggests they will shut down tomorrow, even though they have a direct quote from Spirit saying otherwise. It absolutely isn't.
Doubtful Spirit lasts a few more weeks.

Sure, but the "article" is a hack job. The only solid quote they have is from Sprit denying something that's either made up or has no source. It wouldn't make much sense for the DIP financing to get cut off a day after the pilots voted in concessions. You think Spirit is going to tell the world, "WE'RE SHUTTING DOWN TOMORROW! REFUND EVERY TICKET YOU CAN BEFORE WE LIQUIDATE!!!!!"
They will deny they're going out of business until they're out of business.
The Air Current is the best source for aviation news out there.Sure, but the "article" is a hack job. Agree with Seggy - Ostrower is one of the most trusted sources in the industry.Sure, but the "article" is a hack job. Yeah, but at least in the free section, all he is doing is repeating that some executives "think" they could cease ops this weekend. So not providing new insight or analysis, only repeating what some execs are saying. We know who one of those execs is already and this is nothing new.Agree with Seggy - Ostrower is one of the most trusted sources in the industry.
As stated elsewhere, Scott Kirby doubtless took a second to stop snorting CRJs off a toilet tank lid in a Boulder taqueria to weigh in on his opinion on yellow airplanes. Again, I mean.Yeah, but at least in the free section, all he is doing is repeating that some executives "think" they could cease ops this weekend. Doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about. Now he’s trying to say the deadline was moved to December 17th when that hearing was already previously scheduled and has nothing to do with the 13th deadline. Nothing but a hit piece.Agree with Seggy - Ostrower is one of the most trusted sources in the industry.
This was always the plan. It was in the publicly available bankruptcy filings. It did take an 11th hour reprieve from the credit card companies, so again, I don't think it was a hack job at all ...

I agree man, it sucks. I’m almost a decade in and didn’t want to see things go this way. All I know is $100M isn’t going to do anything to save the airline other than keep it running for another 1-2 months. The future of Spirit has already been decided we just aren’t privy to that information yet.So sad what’s happening with Spirit. 100% on management. They completely screwed up
The first BKcy. That was the time to take care of vendors, lessors, costs, etc.
Paywall, but that's not too hard to get around.
Shocked Frontier would want anything to do with that mess.
They'd be better off waiting for Chapter 7 and picking up the pieces on cheap.
(sorry Spirit pilots, I do not hate you, but the company is a mess)
As far as I know, they don't have many unencumbered assets. But if you wait for liquidation to pick up the pieces on the cheap, how do you guarantee you’ll get anything you want without getting outbid?
