So a few weeks ago my son's wallet was taken at school- he's in 10th grade at a pretty good private school. Not sure if he left it somewhere or someone took it from him.
Of course he waits about a week before telling us as he knows he will be in trouble- his military ID is also in the wallet. When I finally figure out that he is missing his wallet I go on-line and see that someone has been using his debit card. Nothing major- $1/$2 purchases from the school vending machine. I also notice that between these purchases it was used at a supermarket. I call the supermarket asking about video- bingo. They have video of all purchases, but I need to get the police involved. The school also wants me to get the police involved as they suspect the same person has been doing this (taking wallets from unsuspecting students), for over a year and doing the same thing. Small purchases using debit cards.
Well, the police finally sent me a picture this weekend and I was shocked. Since the debit card was used at the school both before and after the supermarket purchase everyone assumed it would be a picture of a student. Nope, it was an adult. I sent it to the school's dean of students over the weekend and just got a call from a detective. The dean recognized the picture. It's the parent of a student using my son's stolen debit card. And not some poor family, but a well-off family.

So how sick is this. The detective seems to think that the parent is actually teaching the kid to steal.

Crime can be a hobby.
What is surprising is that the parent would be assumed to be educated. And therefore would know almost every transaction would be on video/camera.

So how did said parent get a hold of this debit card? I'm going to assume that the kid stole the wallet, and gave it to the parents. So this is a whole bunch more than just someone using your debit card. This is a parent who has taught their child to steal.

If that's bthe case, the child needs to be charged as well.

Really sad state of affairs when a parent teaches their child stuff like this.

My first thoughts too. Whiskey Tango Fox for sure. Reminds me of a rapper acquaintance who spent a day or so in jail after shoplifting a $200ish pair of shoes from a Footlocker...when he was going to be paid $3,000 that night to preform at a show which he missed by being in jail. You can't buy class.
