So a few weeks ago my son's wallet was taken at school- he's in 10th grade at a pretty good private school. Not sure if he left it somewhere or someone took it from him.
Of course he waits about a week before telling us as he knows he will be in trouble- his military ID is also in the wallet. When I finally figure out that he is missing his wallet I go on-line and see that someone has been using his debit card. Nothing major- $1/$2 purchases from the school vending machine. I also notice that between these purchases it was used at a supermarket. I call the supermarket asking about video- bingo. They have video of all purchases, but I need to get the police involved. The school also wants me to get the police involved as they suspect the same person has been doing this (taking wallets from unsuspecting students), for over a year and doing the same thing. Small purchases using debit cards.
Well, the police finally sent me a picture this weekend and I was shocked. Since the debit card was used at the school both before and after the supermarket purchase everyone assumed it would be a picture of a student. Nope, it was an adult. I sent it to the school's dean of students over the weekend and just got a call from a detective. The dean recognized the picture. It's the parent of a student using my son's stolen debit card. And not some poor family, but a well-off family.
So how sick is this. The detective seems to think that the parent is actually teaching the kid to steal.
