Special NASA Clearance (Cape Canaveral)

Try Amarillo for a giant runway you can land on. The pavement is 300 feet wide but the runway edge paint is 200. Used to be a B-52 base.

Sawyer AFB in Upper Pennisula Michigan is 300 feet wide, with the lights since moved in to 150. Also a former B-52 base, now a county operated airport. Optical illusions abound with pavement that wide.

Been a long time since I've seen that view. As someone else said, back in the good old days you could call and ask for the "shuttle tour," and they let you fly down the runway and past the VAB. On a very rare occasion when few people were around, you could them to let you do a quick touch-and-go. All of that stopped after 9/11, though. :(

Cool that you got the opportunity.

Back home, Westover(KCEF) has a 12000x300 runway. It's fun doing low approaches there and just hanging out in ground effect the whole length, takes forever! I still would love to get into a cub and land sideways across it haha

I did get to fly into XMR (Cape Canaveral AFS) on Dec. 21. After taking off on 31, unfortunately the sun was right in my face so I didn't get to see as much of KSC as I had wanted.
