Special Airspace

If you're on an IFR flight plan that will take you through some special airspace (e.g. an active MOA, or TFR region), will ATC route you around that airspace, or would the flight plan not be accepted at the time of filing?

Unless the Air Traffic Controller isnt paying attention since his sector is a TFR and thinks noone will come...Imagine that happening to you?

Has anyone seen the article about how to handle a Military aircraft encounter if you fly into a TFR and get intercepted? Very interesting things.

Just make an aggressive turn into the intercepting fighter once he forms up on you.

They love that. It's good training.

You should put a disclaimer on that comment Mike!

Wasn't there some story years ago about a guy flying near Area51 in a 172 that tried that and ended up getting forced down by some F15s? They didn't shoot him down but he was pulling some kind of stupid stunt when they caught up with him.

Yes. That's why I got the "pure sarcasm" smirky-faces attached.

Maybe I should put more of them

It's gotta suck for a guy flying a 16 if he's intercepting a 172 or something similar. What's the stall speed on that thing? Sheesh, the guy probably has to put his gear down to fly slow enough to stay in the air!

But remember, be sure to a) take away his turning room, and b) wait until his line-of-sight rate starts to change before turning into him!

I wonder what corner velocity is on a C-172....

On an IFR flight plan ATC will coordinate your flight through joint use airspace, otherwise they will vector you around it. That is one of the simple beuties of filing IFR. WORD OF CAUTION: When in the Washington ADIZ, you may cancell IFR but DON"T I repeat DON"T change your squawk to VFR. It is an automatic violation. Don't ask how I know ...

Actually I was flying a Military airplane, landing at a Military field inside the ADIZ on a 4 mile final, cleared for the visual and my copilot / Commander cancelled IFR and before I could stop him he changed our code back to 1200. I told him to put it back but since we were now on a 2 mile final he said not to worry ... riiight. When we picked up our IFR clearance for departure we were told to call Potomac Approach phone number provided. The sup wanted to viloate me as the PIC ... wanted my name and cert # ... I pulled a MikeD and said I didn't have a license and if asked if he was familiar with the violation procedures for Military aircrew ... he said he was and I told him to have at it, Good day.
