Spacing on Final in Visual Conditions

Hi guys,

What kind of spacing do you "busy" tower guys like to see on final in VMC? I've found that 2.5nm into LGA will allow for the preceding aircraft to clear and a departing aircraft to takeoff, but was wondering if you guys had any more insight. Thanks!

J.

The folks in EWR tower told me that 2.5 is their minimum, provided they can maintain visual separation from the tower. It sounds like 2.5mi is their goal.

sounds like a general nation wide rule. If unable to maintain 2+ miles from preceding aircraft, you can chance a go around.
Approach or tower should assign speeds even with plane to plane visual seperation if possible go around exist, if a pilot is concerned with separation they should request a speed or at least ask preceding aircrafts speed and distance from approach end of runway.
