Space based ADS-B

Was it worth it for them? Can't you get the same info here. ADS-B Exchange - tracking thousands of aircraft

No, the datastreams are completely different. The data that drives ADS-B Exchange is crowdsourced via terrestrial devices (IE: raspberry pis). The whole point of space based ADS-B is to get away from the limitations of terrestrial based surveillance, which unfortunately is only available by sending up satellites. Anyone who's spending money on satellites isn't going to give away that surveillance data for free.

So it’s more for over ocean tracking.

A lot of it is, but also over certain land areas like the Amazon in South America....basically anywhere that doesn't have an ADSB receiver on the ground.
FlightAware has a pretty cool coverage map you can see the difference between what Space Based covers vs Terrestrial
