I wish they were all as nice as you then.I've held flights lots of times and even headed back upstairs to check to make sure we have everyone onboard at departure time because I knew we didn't. Sure enough, revenue & non-revs standing around wondering why they weren't on. Customer service in this industry needs some serious work, talk to the crews and see if you can get them to man up and take the delay. Means nothing to me to get the ol 'cockpit checks' delay assigned if I do my job and get people where they are supposed to go.
I can honestly say about 90% of crews will refuse to re-do the paperwork and add misconnects unless operations insists on holding. Every once in a while they'll smile and say "Sure send em down" and take a cockpit checks delay, but its very rare, sadly. Of course I'm mostly talking about RJs, we're usually too busy at the Brasilia gates at the hubs to actually go down to the airplane, which can be the suck.
