I hope they didn't laugh about the Atlas crew.....
It looks like it ends like that on both sides https://www.google.com/search?q=kpl...oAA&biw=320&bih=416#biv=i|0;d|S8GBi5-YemkuuM:Just read the airplane was about 40 feet from the end of the runway which ends at a ravine or cliff.

Yikes. Glad everything turned out. The last thing WN needed was another overrun...Just read the airplane was about 40 feet from the end of the runway which ends at a ravine or cliff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_France_Flight_358I wonder how this would have turned out if the runway was wet?
Doesn't matter if you're only a <300 hour pilot. Had you been the leader in tonights game of find the airport, the procedure you were taught would've prevented this. Now I'm only a <300 hr pilot, but I was always taught to back up my visual approaches with another app. ILS DME whatever it may be that shows the final app course. I would guess that if they did this than it would have shown them off course?? Duh.
But I don't know how the airlines do it. And I don't know if maybe these runways has the same heading??
How far is the drop? Probably would have exploded!Could have been bad huh?? Wouldn't want to go 4 wheelin' in a 73 down that hill

There's no atc feed of this aiport on liveatc.net, I am kind of disappointed.
Imagine how much fun you could have if you owned that billboard right now.Could have been bad huh?? Wouldn't want to go 4 wheelin' in a 73 down that hill

It's late at night so excuse my thought process if it seems ridiculous, but me thinks that if that happens, coupled with the "pilot shortage" and the increasing demand to fly, perhaps that can be offset with bigger planes and less frequencies.Maybe it's just time to not do visuals anymore like it is in Europe and Asia. If you thought Part 117 was a pain, imagine the delays if we don't do visuals anymore. It really might be for the best, though.
